Dusting concrete garage floor

I'm after a low cost way of preventing dusting from th concrete floor, I had a look at the paints but it means being without the garage for days while the paint cures. The rubber tiles appear expensive.
One place suggested gel back carpet
Any suggestions?

Buy 5 litres of pva. Mix with 30% water. Apply like paint. Will seal the dust and will be ready in a couple of hours. Total cost under £20.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

The solvent based polyurethane paints take a few days to fully harden but you can get water based floor paints which are very quick drying.
  • I agree with Phil, although it's quicker to apply it with a bucket and a yard brush.

Another vote for PVA or a can of stabilising solution poured on a swished about with a yardbrush.

Don't use paints or tiles if you wish to make hard use of the garage, there's always further upkeep, MSE remember.

Just to update, I have purchased 2*500ml of PVA and a broom, will dilute 1:4 to cover 25m^2 after 2-3 hrs will do the same again. I will be parking the car on it later after a good 4hrs minimum.

You might need to drop the clutch heavily to get away in the morning:rotfl::rotfl: just joking, it will be fine, you aren't try to to leave a coat on the surface, the idea is that it soaks deep in.

You may struggle with just 2 x 500ml. It would have been more prodent to get a 5 litre tob from screwfix!

You are not far wrong, the instructions I saw says 1:4 and 1 litre will cover 10-12m^2 , but it gets absorbed quicker than I thought, I will use the next 500ml of PVA and then tomorrow I will get another 500ml and bung it in the bucket and fill the bucket as it's easier to spread in, it's drying quick enough, I hosed over the top to help the spreading as I brushed it in.

The 2nd application is as expected taking longer to dry.
