Changing the fuse box/switch to a socket?
Ok, I am not sure hoow to describe, but we have a fuse box/swithc, like this: It is next to the gas fire place that we have already removed this weekend (ok, Corgi man removed it). There will be no fire going back in there, and this electrical cable will just need to isolated. What I was wondering is how difficult is it to…

Bathroom Extractor Fan Help
The bathroom extractor fan my builder has fitted doesn't seem very good. I have a bungalow with an internal bathroom and the fan is fitted in the ceiling and ducted through an extension roof using flexible ducting (a run of about 10ft). I don't know if the lack of extraction is due to the fan itself or the ducting. After…

Cleaning Pavers - Hydrochloric Acid
Hi, I have had a problem with my pavers (laid 6 months ago), and have been told the best option is to clean them with hydrochloric acid. Just wondering if anyone know of a high-street product that has this in it. I went to homebase, and while their Patio cleaner seems to have some kind of acid in it, it didn't tell me…

New kitchen.
Right, we want a new kitchen. One side has a sink, washing machine, fridge (both appliances will stay), and under-sink cupboards (and another slim cupboard) on the floor. This side has a large double cupboard at head height. That side has little room for much else because the outline of the stairs juts out. The other side…

We have thought about looking into replacing the roof with tiles so that it becomes a more useable room - has anyone done this? If so, who did you use? We are in Hertfordshire. 10 min wait until hot water flows from tap
Hi All, this should be simple, but I am not sure why it has gone wrong? When the kitchen tap is turned it, it dribbles (stream of drops), then after 10-15 mins flows normally. Once the hot water runs, the tap can be turned off and straight after on again and the water runs normally, leave the taps closed for 2 mins, and…

Insulating between a garage and a bedroom above it
Can anyone give me advice on how to insulate between a garage and a bedroom above it? I am looking for the easiest method of doing this as I am not great at DIY and to be honest don't have a lot of money to spend on this. The bedroom is directly above the garage and the floor is always so cold and the room itself is far…

Middle of oven missing.
Hello all, I have a rather odd query. We're long term house sitting for a friend (9months) as he's got a contract working away. The flat is completely furnished as you would imagine. The problem is, the oven has nothing inside. When I say nothing, I mean it has no shelves nor any slots to slide any shelves in, no indents…

Hi All I have just brought an old stone house with an old oil boiler. I intend to use solid fuel for the main heating but am not sure what to use as a back up. The old boiler needs replacing or possibly repairing. Would it be worthwhile changing to LPG or some kind of electric heating. First of many questions. Thanks James

Do people re-cover 3 piece suites these days?
Our first one lasted 20+ years and was re-covered once. Our current suite is 17/18 year old and looking shabby but was a good quality when we bought it. Apart from it being a bit shabby it probably needs new fillings in the seat cushions. So do you get it re-covered? Or do I look at buying new? BUT can I get a new one that…
