Cold Water Feed Problem
mckat_2
I have 2 bathrooms upstairs, one on suite and the other a family one. The cold water feed to the on suite bathroom has stopped. I've checked the tanks in the loft and they are both full with the outlets clear and the cold water runs in the other bathroom. The hot supply is OK. Bit mystified on what to do next. If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.

When you say the cold feed has stopped - is it everything - i.e. sink tap and toilet cistern fill? If its just a tap it may be that the washer has stuck in the closed position, similarly if the toilet isn't filling it might be something in the cistern that has stuck shut. If its both then it sounds like someone has fiddled with a valve somewhere - small children in the house?Adventure before Dementia!0

It's all the cold water supply: basin , toilet cistern, bath tap.... I'll have alook around for a valve? Thanks very much for the response.Filiss0

Cannot find a valve ! There is now another dimension to this problem, if I turn the hot tap on and the cold, the flow rate increases out of the mixer tap and I get a trickle cold water feed to both the toilet cistern and the bath tap. Are they linked???! Completely flumuxed now, might have to go for the plumber option!!!Filiss0

I'm not a plumber but I'd be guessing that when you turn on the hot tap, its reducing the pressure somewhere which is allowing water through. I think this is probably a plumber job as it could be a long job to find where and why its doing that!Adventure before Dementia!0

sounds like you have an airlock in the cold supply, to that side of the house.Get some gorm.0

Or you've got a blockage in the feed pipe. Try tracing the feed pipe back as far as you can, loosen a connection (assuming compression fittings) and work your way down to the ensuite.sounds like you have an airlock in the cold supply, to that side of the house.
Son had a similar problem and it was crud from the CW tank blocking the feed pipe at a bend.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
Yes agree its either air or carp in the pipework.

Sorry but thats not true. One cold drawoff in the house must be fed from mains and thats normally the kitchen. Thats in Water Regs. Traditionally all other cold taps are fed from the CWST thus ensuring balanced supplies. More modern installations with combi boilers or unvented cylinders will, of course, be mains.
