Heating Help

Hi All
I have just brought an old stone house with an old oil boiler.
I intend to use solid fuel for the main heating but am not sure what to use as a back up.
The old boiler needs replacing or possibly repairing.
Would it be worthwhile changing to LPG or some kind of electric heating.

First of many questions.

Thanks James

you should not require a back up system for the heating. millions of homes dont have one.
    ie
solid fuel boiler and electric showers.
immersion heater for hot water in the summer (only if required). you could boil a kettle for that small amount.

    ps.
maybe a couple of electric fires for those odd/funny chilly nights.
    Get some gorm.

I lived in a solid fuel house before the problem being when you come in at night and the house is cold it takes time to get it warmed up often just in time to go to bed.
