washing machine - conditioner part of drawer blocked
Am sure this is one of the easiest things to do when you know how! The bit where the fabric conditioner is poured into, in the drawer, is blocked - permanently filled with water. I've taken the drawer out, rinsed, soaked and scrubbed it with hot water and detergent - it still fills up and stays full of water next time the…

Bulkhead/photocell problem

Dimming a combination of halogens and normal bulbs
Sorry if this is an obvious question, but I'm a bit clueless and haven't managed to find a definitive answer elsewhere! Our bathroom has a normal flick light switch just outside the door with a single switch. This switch turns on a normal bulb in the ceiling (energy saver) and also two halogens above the counter. I want a…

TRV Issue
Hi All Have a query, perhaps it's an obvious question.. Last night we bled and removed a radiator. The TRV was set to zero and so locked. We then switched the heating on and for some reason water came through the TVR when it was off. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding how TRV's work but is that supposed to happen or is it faulty?

Benefit of having Wireless Thermostat
Hi All I’ve got a couple of silly heating boiler/stat related questions which I’m not totally clued up on. I’ve got a Vaillant boiler system and radiators with their own thermostat controls on them (the round things that I can adjust from 1 to 5 on each radiator) All the radiator thermostats are on 5 otherwise I just can’t…

rendered timber frame bay window
I have a timber framed bay window between the downstairs bay and upstairs bedroom bay, constructed in the early 90's. I had the outside re-rendered this year as it had blown and cracked in several places after 20 years of weather on it. It had been badly done from day one with metal lattice that had rusted, and internal…

granite supplier in scotland - any recommendations?
We are looking for a granite supplier to supply and install a kitchen worktop in central scotland. I've searched the netand seen that there are quite a few but I'd rather not just pick a random one. Low voltage halogen lights
I recently moved into a new place which has halogen lights in the kitchen and bathrooms and found some of the bulbs did not light. They are the 12V type, fitted into the ceiling. Initially I thought the bulbs had just blown, and tried replacing them. Alas the bulbs were OK, and a quick check with a meter showed no 12V…

Kitchen Appliances - top ten brands?
Hi all, I was hoping some kitchen experts could provide a list of the best (in your opinion of course) kitchen appliances in terms of quality, lifespan and guarantee. As someone else said on another thread - having a recognised name doesn't necessarily mean they're good. I've heard Bosch and Neff are the top two…
