bathroom tiles

hi, could anyone advise if these will be ok on plastered bathroom walls? have read a few things about weight issues, but not sure how to tell if they will be ok in 306 x 610 size. have searched everywhere for opalstone/applestone tiles and these are the cheapest I have found.

Also, anyone know where i can get dark emperador marble floor tiles??

Its not the size of the tile that matters its the weight per sq metre. These are prolly iro 20kg. To that you need to add iro 2 kg/m2 for grout and iro 4 kg/m2 for addy. Since you ask yes it is that heavy because you must use cement based powdered adhesive for natural stone not tubbed carp. So we are looking at iro 25kg/m2.

Now you cannot hang more than 20kg/m2 on plastered walls or on skimmed plasterboard but on plain plasterboard you can hang 32 kg/m2 and on hardibacker 45 kg/m2. Unless you want to be showering in hard hat and body armour for the rest of your natural I suggest you might want to consider reboarding before tiling if you are set on these. Prolly be cheaper than the PPE as well!

The flippant answer is China (sorry, couldn't resist). The place you linked to have the light ones. Tried asking them? Alternatively go into your local tile shop (no I don't mean the TT chain variety) I mean a specialist - ask them.

If you like the tiles I'd be tempted to go for the big one - get back to brick and or stud, dot and dab (lots of adhesive not just one each corner and one in centre) plasterboard on brick or block, screw plasterboard at min 200 centres on stud. Ensure that p'board edges are fully supported with adhesive where d&ding and put in addl noggins for stud and tile away. Don't forget to tank plasterboard in shower area before tiling.

Oh you are doing the whole bathroom are you? The above might be a bit drastic if you are only retiling 'cos you'll need to take the suite out to do it properly. You'll have to (well you should) remove loo and basin for tiling anyway.

Alternatively find a different tile in different material like ceramic. Natural stone is going to give you a weight issue on existing substrate as you describe anyway.

What is the substrate for the marble floor tiles you want?
