Squeaky door handles
Hey there, Has anyone got any tips for silencing squeaky door handles? These are your normal brass effect door handles. Almost every door throughout the house makes this noise when you push down the handle! The door hinges have all been easily fixed with a bit of WD-40. I'm just wondering if the same would fix the door…

Want to paint rendering but there's moss on it
The rendering on our porch (which has never been painted before and is a dirty grey/brown colour) was very damp and there's a lot of moss growing on it where the sand has lodged between the little stones (we live at the seaside). I've killed the moss and it's now turned brown. The cause of the damp has been remedied and…

Which paint for the kitchen?
Hi All, I am not sure which paint to use for the kitchen as I have read mixed reviews on the dulux kitchen and bathroom paint. I need a paint which is washable as we are not going to have any tiles on the walls- it's only going to be 100mm upstands, and a splashback behind the hob. We have put two coats of the dulux trade…

Removing trees in shared gardens cheaply and getting neighbours to contribute
Hi, I live in a ground floor flat that looks onto shared gardens. In our shared garden there are 3 trees (reaching to about the 2nd floor). In the next door shared garden, there is a huge tree (over 4 floors high). These trees block out all the light to the gardens and back windows so it's like living in a cave at the…

Disposing of paint tins
Hi all, How do you dispose of paint tins? Do they go in the land fill rubbish or is their a 'special' place to take them. We have a mixture of gloss and emulsion tins. Some of these are full but out of date to be reused by somewhere else so what can we do with them? Many thanks all.

Fridges with strong shelf supports!
I am looking at getting a new fridge, but want one with good strong shelves. My current one has plastic supports on the edge of the glass shelves, and they have all broken. They simply are not strong enough. Most fridges seem to have cheap plastic to hold the shelves in. John Lewis do one where the glass goes right to the…

Outside electric box
This box on the outside of our house has been bugging me for ages, so today i did some digging... on the outside, i opened up the box to find a twin and earth cable runing into it, terminated in a screw terminal (choc-box??). The cable is 100% live with 240v! After initial thoughts and measurments, I first thought it was…

Mold and walls and ceiling- how to get rid?
We're thinking of buying a repo, and there are a few walls that have visable black mold spots on the surface, due to a water tank leak. Does anyone know how I can get rid of black mould on the walls/ceiling? Do I fully replace each moldy wall, or scrub down and paint over? Many thanks!

Iron railings
The iron railings on the wall at the front of my house are a little scraggy. I last painted them 4 years ago with hammerite paint. I went through the whole rigmerole of rubbing down, sanding, grinding, priming and finally painting. As I have very little spare time it took me about 2 weeks to complete. I want to paint them…

Outside tap- self cutting conectors
I want to put in an outside tap and was going to get one of those all inclusive kits, but I've heard that self cutting conectors can cause problems with water pressure, because the bits that get cut off stay in the pipe. What do you think, is there a better, not hudgely expensive or difficult alternative?
