Door measurements - got a mental block

Options
I suspect I've been thinking about this for so long now that I just cant see the wood for the trees and have confused myself unneccessarily so I could use a fresh eye/opinion please.

I have a walk-in cupboard in my kitchen. It has just recently been built and has no door/plate/architrave at present, only wood framing/plasterboard.

The breakfast bar faces this cupboard and there is only around 75cms between the end of the breakfast bar and the cupboard doorway. It was originally intended to put in a normal 24" room door (which would have opened fully but left no room at all to get past) but I have decided I would prefer to use the same doors that are on my kitchen larder units, so the place looks more streamlined. So now, instead of 1 x 24" door, I will have 2 x 300mm wide kitchen unit larder doors which will obviously not take up as much space opening into the room.

The cupboard doorway will have 20mm oak plate (door lining) and oak architrave round it and I would prefer the unit doors to overlay the oak plate by around 5mm-ish so that the architrave can cover most of the plate edge.

Which brings me to my problem. I was thinking I would use Blum kitchen unit door inset hinges, but if I do, there will be a small space between the edge of the door and the doorway. If I use a standard overlay hinge, it will cover most of the plate edge (which I dont want because I need the architrave to cover some of this edge). So my thinking now, is to use the standard Blum hinge with a 9mm hinge backplate. This means (I think) that only 9mm of the door lining will be covered by the door, and the rest of the plate edge (11mm) can be covered by the architrave.

Does that sound right?

If so....how wide should the doorway be made to? 600mm (for the 2 x 300 doors) plus 9mm each side =618mm? (Outer edge of plate to outer edge.)

Or am I talking rubbish? :o

Have you thought about mounting your doors on the vertical doorliners first then bringing the two sides together. That would then give you the width you require.

Thanks Atelier. I'm not sure how practical that would be to do, it seems a bit of a faff. Mind you the way things are going, I could well end up trying that if I dont get a definitive answer. :D

Fit the hinges, put the doors on and lie each piece on the floor door side down for measuring. :-)
