Mold and walls and ceiling- how to get rid?

We're thinking of buying a repo, and there are a few walls that have visable black mold spots on the surface, due to a water tank leak.
Does anyone know how I can get rid of black mould on the walls/ceiling?
Do I fully replace each moldy wall, or scrub down and paint over?
Many thanks!

Bleach then scrub should remove the black spots. The Dettol stuff works (mostly). I'd also put a coat of a fungicide (e.g. Polycell Mould Killer) on as belt-and-braces before repainting (although it's been unsuccessful for me in the past as a mould killer).
Both of those products are nasty things that you want to wear safety goggles and probably a mask while using.0 -
I got some stuff called Virkon (Google it?) it's not really for mould on walls but does kil it dead. You need gloves and open windows, it doesn't really smell strong though./I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

If you have got mould then there must be a reason why it is there so it is important to sort out that problem else it will just return.
The chances are that you have something like leaky guttering that is causing water to run down the wall. Sort that out, dry the wall of and clean with something like bleach and it won't come backdottiepeas wrote: »We're thinking of buying a repo, and there are a few walls that have visable black mold spots on the surface, due to a water tank leak.

I agree, you need to find out what is causing it.
As to getting rid of the black spots, then go for the diluted bleach wash, that what I am using on a house I am decorating for a client.
There are 3 downstairs rooms that were awful with the mould, in one room 3/4 of the ceiling and 3 walls had it,the rest was just the odd wall, and parts on other walls, so I washed it all down with diluted bleach and rinsed off.
They wanted the rooms painted, and I know it can come back, unless the problem is sorted of course, but to keep any future mould/black spots at bay till they get it sorted, I painted the ceilings/wall areas with dulux alkali primer sealer, its very very expensive, and stinks to high heaven, but it does the job, and will hold it for a couple of years.
But a cheaper option and will work just the same, but maybe not as long, is to use oilbase undercoat, thinned with white spirt, and roll that on the areas, leave for a day or so, then emulsion as usual, this will hold/stop any mould coming through for a good long while.0 -

We have mould in my council flat. The council said I just had to leave all windows open all night and day over the winter and bleach it. After a few emails to the Director of Housing, they have decided that it is an ongoing and permanent problem that needs aggressive remedial works, as the mould is within the plaster and fabric of the building and nothing will remove it permanently.
Mould and condensation are the enemies of a pleasant and comfortable life. The stuff disgusts me, especially when you get the feeling that you smell more like a crypt than a summer breeze.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
