Kitchen Wall Tiles
Hi, I'm after some advice on kitchen tiles. I'm not after the cheapest option, just the best value for money. We're having granite worktops and solid wood doors, so 9p white tiles aren't the things, but £35 a tile is definitely out. What are the things to look for when picking some good looking tiles without breaking the…

Varnish over wallpaper
Hi, I have a query which I was hoping if you DIY experts can help with please. We had an old chester that we are thinking of covering up with Wall Paper. It is not wood so we can not sand it and repaint it. Now I know that you shouldn't varnish over wallpapers on the walls as it is very difficult to remove it in future.…

Buildings/plumbing insurance cover on mains pipe
Hi, Looking for a bit of advice and hoping I'm in the right place. Water has leaked from my kitchen down into my neighbour's kitchen due to a crack in a valve on the mains water pipe. It's a polypipe valve that connects a lead and copper pipe. As it's an old lead pipe, there's no stopcock so the water needs to be turned…

POwer socket and lights on same switch
I have a problem in my new house. If I want to use the power socket in my garage I have to turn on the light. If I switch off the light, the power on the socket goes off. To have the socket on the lights need to be on; if the lights are switched off, the power goes off. This cannot be right? What can I do to fix this?

What rights do I have - builder being slow to complete
Hi, I've had a builder doing a refurb on my house. I've been generally happy with the work done but the final bits and pieces are taking an age for them to finish. They aren't here full time and seem to be averaging 2 days a week. I did use a standard contract (provided by one of the professional bodies for the building…

Which Shower?
I'm looking for a specific type of bath shower mixer. I want something like this http://www.h-i-e.co.uk/acatalog/Grohe_Shower_Pack_Set_13.html (I'm not bothered either way about the basin tap). So it's a concealed mixer, with a diverter valve where the bath fills from the overflow, not one where the shower cable is…

Is mould dangerous?
Morning all. I live in a rented flat which seemingly has a serious mould problem in both bathrooms. We had an electrician come in to look at something else and in the process, he had to look behind the water boiler - and we've discovered a ton of mould - black, flattish mould. My bathroom floor crunches underfoot and is…
