Kitchen Wall Tiles

Hi,
I'm after some advice on kitchen tiles. I'm not after the cheapest option, just the best value for money. We're having granite worktops and solid wood doors, so 9p white tiles aren't the things, but £35 a tile is definitely out.
What are the things to look for when picking some good looking tiles without breaking the bank. I need to cover about 3 m^2.
Looking for tips like "don't buy..." or "you can save by...".
Thanks,
Philip

There are some outlets out there. Johnsons have an outlet in Stoke I think - I've bought their tiles before but not
Original Style do lovely glass tiles and they have an outlet down by Exeter. We bought tiles that cost £100 a metre retail for £30 a metre.
And someone told me about a Porelanosa one near Birmingham airport somewhere?
We're having a glass splashback made for us by a glazier - it's costing £195 for 3m length, almost any colour we want. It's still not exactly cheap (although it certainly is by glass splashback standards) but we will not need a tiler for that so that's half a day's work saved as well.
I do think that kitchens are where you can spend a bit more per metre because you don't use as much as you might do in a bathroom etc. and you have to look at it a lot, so make it nice!
Oh, and ebay - people often have leftovers which might do a kitchen. I search locally so I can go and view them.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

If you live in the Staffs/Derby area, can you give me the name of the glazier you're using? I develop new glasses, and really wanted some glass in my kitchen. Originally I wanted one from here:

but the cost is a bit too much to justify (£400 min for a 600x800 mono splashback).0
