Hi all,
How do you dispose of paint tins? Do they go in the land fill rubbish or is their a 'special' place to take them. We have a mixture of gloss and emulsion tins.
Some of these are full but out of date to be reused by somewhere else so what can we do with them?
Many thanks all.

You will need too empty the tins of paint if you want to take them to the tip. Once this is done they will end up in the land fill.If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.0

What about if the tins have some old paint in? You can't tip it down the drain!0

Don't know about your tip, but at ours they have a special place for paint tins with paint left in them (whether full, half-full whatever). Empty tins just go in the general waste skip.0

our local tip also has a place for paint tins. similar to used engine oil.Get some gorm.0

There are a number of "paint recycling" initiatives that take in old paint tins for redistribution. The one that I went to was found through this site http://www.communityrepaint.org.uk/Donate_Where.php?DonateWhere0

If you can't recycle for re-use or your local authority does not have a facility the advice from the manager of our recycling site for safe disposal was:
Take the lid off and allow the paint to dry solid.
If there is too much paint still in the tins add dry sand to absorb and lock the paint together.
Once paint has dried out thoroughly / solidified with the sand the tins can be disposed of in normal household rubbish.0 -
Thanks all. Checked our local council site and they have a facility for taking paint. OH has used one in a different county that wouldn't take it so am glad this one does.0
