    M&S let us down too.

To avoid the last minute rush for presents, we ordered several items in plenty of time for store delivery on the 18th December. They took our order and our money.

On the 18th we get an e mail to say some items available for collection and others out of stock.

    Let's be honest here.

M&S wouldn't get the address number wrong. It simply wouldn't happen. You missed out the number yourself when you ordered.

You messed up and you want reinforcement.
  • it would be interesting to know how M&S systems work because if they're anything like Tesco's then people may be under some serious misapprehensions.

Basically if there are 5 items on the shelf then (theoretically) 6 people can place an order for that item and its the first 5 to have their orders picked gets the item - and the 6th will no doubt post on mse on how they've been let down.

I had a DPD delivery just before christmas where the initial '1' wasn't printed on the address label. Fortunately I was working at home that day, and spotted the driver parked outside the other house and ran to stop him.

    And why is that exactly?

Not M&S but another well known brand missed part of my address off and I was telephoned by the delivery people.

The item and had to be returned and another one sent out. I spoke to them and asked them to make sure they had the correct address which they double checked and assured me they had.

Exactly the same thing happened again when they sent out the replacement item.

The courier labels are printed off direct from the order system via an auto printer, if the labels aren't quite aligned, it can happen that the first house number, initials or letter of a road address may be missed off. Given the volume of parcels being dispatched it is likely that this was not picked up on OPs parcel before despatch.

I didn't ask for tea and sympathy, I had a genuine complaint regarding the service I recieved from M+S, of which I have took up with M+S, and the complaint in being looked into.I have been offered a goodwill gesture from M+S, for which I refused to accept, not the fact it was a sum of money to spend, but for the fact that there service failed, and I wouldn't like someone else to be in the same situation.

But all this has turned into is bullying, back stabbing, and yes trolls, I do not refer to anyone in particular but those that react I can only persume feel that that applies to them. That is not my fault.

It is so easy to hide behind a username anyone can do that, if anything we all do, but I was brought up to have respect for people, whether or not I agreed with them, I was brought up not to be rude, the same way I have brought my daughter up.

Unfortunately it seems a law of sod that when something goes wrong with a delivery, something else doesn't go quite right when the company attempt to rectify this. I'm not sure what else you're expecting from M&S. You have highlighted to them a failing in their despatch process for which they should hopefully carry out a NCAR and put a process in place to prevent a reoccurrence. They can't reverse the clock and seem to have offered you some kind of goodwill gesture.

Lessons learned for the future is perhaps ensure any internet shopping is done sooner, or accept that ordering later then items may not be received for Xmas (I have only just managed to get gifts for some people due to a last min hiccup, but I haven't seem them yet so c'est la vie'). As suggested perhaps go Xmas shopping with your DD in good time before Xmas, have it as a nice Xmas tradition.

Yes it's a shame you couldn't do some of the things you normally do on Xmas eve, it's a stressful time of year, but a lot of the stress we put on ourselves. I remember one year crying in a store car park wailing down the phone to OH because the shop had sold out of turkeys and didn't know if they'd get any more in the next day. In hindsight, we'd have easily found something else for Xmas dinner but right then the world was ending simply because of the pressure I'd put on myself to create 'the perfect christmas'.

Not trolling or bullying but:Op sounds like you left it too late. Lesson learnt for next year. It could be worse.
  • I'm assuming a ton of posts have been deleted as last night there was well over 100+, what with all the silly squabbling.

That was just plain silly & got out of hand. I'm sure OP will now be relieved most of it has now gone. :hello:

I notified the forum team about this thread, I did ask for it to be closed due to all the unnecessary points of view etc - they've obviously cleaned it up.

Hopefully we can just all let it rest and enjoy the new year in peace x
