Fuming with marks and spencers - spoiled our Christmas Eve

Options
Thanks Marks and Spencers for upsetting the family on Christmas Eve - really nice one there.

My daughter had saved her pocket money to buy her grandparents a Christmas present from her own money, ( I have brought gifts for her, but shes at an age where she wants independance, 11yrs old).

M+S sale - she gave me the money for 4 items, I ordered a couple, (last Wed) wanted to collect from store on Mon 23rd, - couldn't do that as some items weren't available, and I was offered free home delievery for the same date.

Parcel 1 arrives on Saturday - luckly there was someone here to sign for it.

Parcel 2 - says original delievery date of 23rd. Checked the online delievery says all due for delievery and can be between 7am and 9pm.

9pm - No delievery - rang M+S - no answer.

----
Fast forward Christmas Eve - which is always a family day, where we go out, take flowers to the cemetary for relatives passed, - no we couldn't go out as there was no one here to collect the parcel and we couldn't ask neighbours as there out or working.

No parcel........ mid afternoon another person in the street come round with a M+S parcel - they didn't recognise the name, but asked around, - in their lovely wisdom M+S had missed one number off my house

eg instead of 36, they put 6 - now in this day and age I don't know half the people who live in the street.

I have had a really upset girl as she feels its her fault that she asked me to get her some presents, we needed to wait for parcel, there was no customer service, and it really upset us having to try to do trips in rounds so that there was someone here, really has spolit what was a family day,
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

No offence, but why didnt you teach your daughter that there is more the Christmas then presents?

Couldnt you have done what you usually so on Christmas eve such as visit cemeteries etc? Would it really have mattered if the present was a couple of days late?

Personally I cant see that M&S have spoilt your Christmas in anyway.

It was a mistake on the number these things happen I think you are over reacting if it was so crucial you could have ordered it earlier and your child is reacting to your stress..

I ordered in plenty of time, its not my fault that M+S couldn't get there act together, and members of family do have other plans, - which was why the original pick up would have been instore on Monday.......

Shes upset because she choose some presents, paid out of her own money and was upset when half the parcel arrived.

I'm fuming yes and I think I have the right to be upset, I paid for a service - and I did not recieve this - arrangements were made around the delievery and to knock half the address off - what happened if it was £1000 furniture suite going to the wrong address!

Then you would claim non delivery from the company.

Perfect time to explain to your daughter that not everything in life runs smoothly and accidents happen. You can either get stressed and achieve nothing, or mark it down as one of those things and carry on.

If they delivered it to the wrong house the person receiving it surely knew it wasn't theirs? They certainly would if it was a three piece suite they hadn't ordered. Deliveries can always get lost whatever the time of year and once you knew on Monday that this was going to be last minute you could have made other arrangements or bought something else, if you let something so trivial spoil your family Christmas I dread to think how you would cope with what some people have to cope with at Christmas.

nearlyrich - I dont mean to be rude, but you don't know what myself and my daughter have been through, a damm lot and were still going through it, so whether its Christmas or a normal day its still a day where we have to try and cope.

Trust me, my daughter knows things dont run smoothly, so when the money has been spent, shall I go to the money tree at the bottom of the garden to get some more to get replacement presents??????

Ordering them last Weds was IMO leaving it a bit late. I've known M & S delivery take 2 weeks. They're the slowest of all the companies i order from on the internet.

My daughter (13) likes to actually go to the shops to buy her gifts, ordering online isn't quite the same as coming home with your stuff in bags.

This is the lesson to be learned.

As you had other things planned for Christmas Eve and there were the two weekend days between the time of ordering and arrival, you were cutting it fine.

These experiences are life-lessons for children - you can teach them to get upset and blame someone else or they can learn to change their own behaviour (ordering earlier) and realise that, in the grand scheme of things, presents arriving late isn't a major problem.
