No hot water for 12 days and still none
Hi, On Wednesday 31st January, contractors working for United Utilities switched off our water with no warning. It came back on in the evening. Since coming back on we had no hot water. I called UU on Friday 2nd and was told that somebody would come out. They turned up at noon and said it was a common problem and that a…

Water off for over 24 hours.
On the 19th Jan. the water went off in our area with no warning from NWW. Rang to find out what was going on received automated message (isn't technology wonderful!) Water came back on 25 hours later by which time fridge/freezer contents only fit for bin. Does anyone know who to apply for a refund of water rates charge and…

westherm thermostat radiator valves
I have the above fittted in my radiators. Lately, some of the radiators have stayed cold or just lukewarm, inspite of turning up the thermostat valves. I have bled the radiators, but that still gave no joy. Maybe the valves are 'stuck' from infrequent use. If so, how do I go about releasing them? Any advice would be very…

Can I insure myself against burst water pipes??
Hi all, I'm moving into a farmhouse in 3 months time, this house has a metered water supply, supplied by a farm 3/4's of a mile from my house. My solicitor has informed me that I am liable for all water pipes from the branch of the supply to my farm. So that means I am responsilbe for roughly 1/2 mile of pipe work. Can I…

Immersion heaters - Keeping them on?
Is it a good idea to leave my immersion heater on 24/7? Idea being that regularly heating warm water rather than cold water would work out cheaper. I'm on Eco 7 if that makes much difference.

Is this a reasonable bill?
Hi Extremely basic question - never had to pay water bills previously as rented and this was all included. Now we've bought our own place and had a strange bill: We initially had a bill for slightly less than one month use, saying we'd used 81 cubic metres of water. For just the two of us in a small flat this seemed…

Waterboard Responsible for drains within your propeties borders
I had a blocked drain and after several months have finally got it sorted. In the process however I found out that waterboards are responsible for the upkeep of any shared drains, even if they are within the boundries of your property providing they were built before 1936. This is to do with when they adopted the network.…

Water pressure
This is probably a really stupid question but over the past few days the water pressure has dropped dramatically. Could it mean my gas boiler needs topping up ? its on the no.2 mark but it was on 3, would that makes such a difference as the pressure seems to of halved? sorry to sound a bit thick:o

Claiming from Anglia Water
Hi folks. Now sit comfortably because here is my tale. It goes on a bit! 3 days ago, in the morning, i looked out my front room window only to see a couple of dirty rough looking fellows skulking around on my front garden. I had no idea what they were upto until i caught site of a Clancey Docwra van. As they were around…

Save 4 litres every time you flush!
If like me your water is metered and you're constantly battling to keep the cost down then here's an easy way to save some money for less then £2.00. The hippo water saver is a small device which you install into your toilet cistern, it actually saves you 4 litres of water every time you flush. So if you add that up over a…

Council Tax Banding & Water Charges
With the current Council Tax Banding fiasco being discussed on this site comes another serious question for all customers of the water companies who pay for their water bills based on the council tax banding of their homes. I pay my water and sewage bills based on a council tax band of C but I have just applied for…

Reduced water rate on unoccupied property
I heard somewhere that where you have a second property that is permanently unoccupied, you are eligible for a reduction in your water rates. Is there any truth to this?

Public Services!
I've had a leak today and the stopcock outside my house is too stiff for me to be able to turn it off. The result was I had to leave water gushing out into the bathroom until my friend got here to turn it off, luckily he was on his way here. Even so, it is so stiff he has to use a tool to turn it off. Am I within my rights…

Welsh Water increased DD payments
I am on a metered water supply, have been for 20 odd years and have more or less consumed the same amount of water on each bill and have only been paying about £10 a month by DD. My last bill received a few days ago tells me that they are increasing the DD to £19.00 per month which is almost 100% higher! I have checked the…
