Immersion heaters - Keeping them on?

Is it a good idea to leave my immersion heater on 24/7? Idea being that regularly heating warm water rather than cold water would work out cheaper.
I'm on Eco 7 if that makes much difference.

Bet match total as of 04/10 = God Knows + About £1000 Quidco. Time for Mrs Huddsta to have a crack!!!

A lot of difference. Arrange the timer so that you heat a full tank of water in the much cheaper Economy 7 period - then just use the 1 hour boost at day rates, when you need it.
Best with Econ 7 if you have 2 immersions. The one at the bottom of the tank (so it heats the whole tank) is activated on the low rates - and the one at the top of the tank (it sticks about 27" down into the tank) is activated by the boost switch.
A bigger than average domestic tank (and factory lagged) adds to the savings - provided one will fit.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
