Masters Loan For Studying In UK or Overseas
Hi guys, this is my first post so be gentle, I'm considering applying for a Masters in Screenwriting at some point this year. I've found numerous courses that have struck my eye, mostly in the UK, but one that really appeals though is in San Francisco at the Academy of Arts Univesity. I have reached out for information but…

Old loan and new loan
My daughter graduated in June 2022. She’s now thinking about applying for PGCE. I understand this is the only postgrad course which is funded as an undergrad course. So she would have three years of the old style 30 year repayment loan and one year of the 40 year loan. I’ve tried to look at how the repayments would be…

Student loan trying to claim a refund for overpaying
Hi. I hope this is in the right section of the forum. I've recently discovered that I've overpaid my plan 2 student loan by just over £300. When I rang the SLC to request a refund I've been told that I can't have a refund as I still have a plan 1 loan on debit and so they will be transferring the £300 of credit from plan 2…

Student gym renewal - be aware!
Just thought I'd pass on my son's experience of renewal today, wont mention the gym group itself ;) His student renewal came up and they said you can renew for £279 today. (down from £379 after a code they gave him) Last year he recalled he paid £127 and he thought "oh that's inflation". SO I had a look around. Direct…

Student loans
Hi I am a volunteer debt adviser I have been reading lately that the government are going to sell off student loans taken before 2012. This has raised a question in my mind that I hope you can help with.If the loans are sold off do they still retain the status of being a student loan and therefore an excluded debt as they…

Student loan for mature student ineligible for Student Finance England
Would you recommend a loan or a credit card to cover tuition fees, given my situation? * I have received an offer to complete as MSc starting in September, which is £12,000 over the course of two years. * I am not eligible for Student Finance since I already have an MSc (despite funding this personally) * I have ten years…

2 student loans 2 different amounts
This September I'll have 2 children at uni, 1 first year, 1 second year. Both are staying in halls but their maintenance loans are different. Year 1 student is set to receive just over £9k, year 2 student around £8800. Is this likely to be correct?

Student loan - dropping from studies
Good evening all Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but during a period of job unhappiness, I decided to enrol on a part time OU degree course. At the time I could see good reasons to work my way through it. Of course I took the option to fund via student finance. 2 years on, a change of jobs and a deferred second year has…

Pre 1998 Student Loans
Is it right that when applying for deferment for a pre 1998 student loan that child benefit is taken into account as earnings? This is paid to me as the mother but is pushing my earnings over the threshold. I would appreciate thoughts on this?

Erudio and child tax payments
Hello there Erudio say that I cannot defer my loan because I am over the monthly threshold. This i because they are combining my monthly salary with my child tax credit payments. Is this legal? I know it's not fair. Any advice would be appreciated. Regards AB

Erudio and Land Registry
Hello there So Erudio are now going after property. Just had this in the post for my partner: "This is not an application for the sale of the property; it is to allow our client (Erudio) to register a notice at the Land Registry. Briefly, this means that when the property is sold or re-mortgaged, the judgement debt due to…

Paying Student Loans Abroad
Hi There, I live in France since a few years. Graduated a long time ago in UK. I will be starting a job now where I will earn enough to pay backs student loans. I usually receive a message from student loans to update my details around November time. If I work a few months and then update my details, will I have to pay the…

Is it wise to pay off student loan early?
Hello, I have approx £3.6K of student loan debt left (plan 4) at 5.25% interest. Mortgage rate 4.15%, no other loans. Don't think i can get a savings rate higher than student loan interest. As a higher tax payer, I'll be taxed once i earn over £500 in savings interest. I have read the blog on repaying student loan early…

1996 - 1998 Plan 1 Student Loan
My wife has plan 1 student loans with the first in 1996 and the last in 1998. She doesn't earn enough to repay it and likely never will so it's really a non-issue however, I was expecting it to be written off either this year or next under the 25 year rule but now I'm not sure whether it's going to persist until she's 65,…
