Oyster with railcard vs contactless
I visit London about monthly, and usually use the tube while I'm there. I have an Oyster with Senior Railcard attached, so I get about 33% off - v good. However, being signed up to Oyster means TfL keep at least £20 of my cash on account, forever, for auto top-up. Is Oyster still worth it, despite being permanently minus…

bike shop service differences - best value?
Hi All, I've got a Dahon folding bike (with no gears and a pedal backwards rear brake) that I use for commuting a two days a week and it needs a service. All seems fine, but it's been a while and I'd like to get it thoroughly checked out. I've found three local bike shops that have good reviews, but I have no idea what I'm…

Rail ticket confusion
My DS2 has been accepted into a college a fair distance (for
him) to travel to each day (we assume it is each day as opposed to his lessons
being truncated into several (week) days as he has not received his timetable
yet). Anyway, I have looked at the guide (Cheap
train tickets – find hidden fares & split tickets -…

Buying a railcard online - have you been caught by £10 admin fee?
My wife and I needed to renew our Two Together Railcard last month (the old one expired on 23 July). We prefer the plastic railcard issued online and delivered by post to both the digital railcard and paper railcard options. I renewed in late June (when I received the one month reminder) as I knew I'd be busy with other…

Hey everyone I've started a new job which involves travelling to the office once a month on a Monday to Sutton, London. Tube discussion/ticket validity Oyster/contactless
I have sometimes heard announcements on the tube where there is a significant delay/disruption that "your ticket will be valid on local buses or alternative routes". I can see how this works for a single paper ticket, but clearly this does not work by default for oyster/contactless for bus alternative after a broken tube…

Flixbus or Megabus?
I'm travelling from Manchester to Bristol in a few weeks. Trains are over £100 (even with split tickets), Megabus is £40, and Flixbus is £25. I'd much rather go on the train but at these prices the coach is more tempting. I've used Megabus before, but not Flixbus. Is Flixbus any good?

Cheap train tickets using The Trainline.com
I don't know if this works on other journeys but it a train from Adlington (Lancs) to Salford Crescent costs £7.60 on trainline.com. A ticket from Adlington (Lancs) to Deansgate, which is one stop further, is £3.60, over a 50% saving. I presume there are popularity algorithyms at work. I presume getting off early isn't…

West Midlands Trains seem to charge a processing fee for any Delay Repay. Is this actually legal? I would not get my 25% back if it is.

TfL plans to stop the paper One Day all zones Travelcard (and Travelcard add-ons to rail tickets)
https://haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/travelcards for the consultation I would suggest you provide an opinion to keep the travelcard (for what it is worth) Paper travelcards are something of a niche product these days. The concept is a paper ticket, available on the day, covering zones 1-4 (anytime pricing) or 1-6 (peak and…
