Battery issue with e bike Carrera Crosscity E bike

Posted this on another category but it was suggested I post on this category
Can anyone help with a Carrera Crosscity E bike x2 purchased from Halfords in Aug 2017
The batteries were stored as per the owners manual and last week decided to charge the batteries with the charger showing as green
that told us the batteries were fully charged . Put them in the bikes and no power showing
Visited the local store and they have told us we are nit in the two year warranty so need to buy 2 batteries at a cost of £300 each
how do we stand with taking this issue further with Halfords as they will not listen to our plea being old age pensioners

How exactly were they stored? Often batteries need charging monthly or regularly to prevent them failing.
Its likely replacements are available from elsewhere at a lower cost.

How long ago were the batteries last charged?

I wouldn't leave a battery that long myself, 3 months is about the usual limit before a top up charge should be looked at. That said if they were fully charged in October and stored disconnected from the bikes (or the battery itself was turned off) they should not be dead and both show no power at all. This looks more like a connection issue. Get some electrical contact cleaner and clean the contacts on the bike and battery. Check the fuses (if any are accessible).
Follow the pedelecs link above as that's a pure ebike site and you'll get a lot more information there.

The batteries are dead and below the minimum charge level that modern electronic chargers will recognise to start charging.

They will show a green even when not charging. Does battery get slightly warm when left on charge for a period of time?

    Warm charging. Cold not charging.

If not warm there are sites that show batteries getting bumped up to enable a charge to start.

Some companies provide a replacement pack service. New batteries into your existing plastic case.

Some companies sell replacement batteries complete with new case.

Expensive. You can google and decide.

This is the third thread started on this 2 in consumers. 1 here in public transport etc. Not your fault as just asking for advice but can mods merge all so OP can probably get better answers than mine LOL. :)

  • Unless the battery was completely drained in October I wouldn't expect them to be dead after 6 months. Have you tried measuring the voltage with a multimeter? Sometimes the connections on ebikes can be dodgy and give faulty readings, I had no end of problems with my Sirocco bike and had to solder the battery to the bike in the end!
  • I have the same problem with my wife's bike and have ordered a replacement battery with more capacity through Alibaba.com which is a site for Chinese suppliers. It is considerably cheaper for the 10.5ah battery with Samsung cells, around £185 including shipping and taxes at the current exchange rate. Am waiting to receive it but now suspect my charger may have gone. It was showing 40Volts output but now I get nothing so it may have blown in my attempts to charge the old battery. Best to drop in to Halfords and ask them to check the charger and the battery before you spend any money. On alibaba.com, you search for 'Scimitar inner tube 36v' and it will be at the top of the list. You then have to click on Contact Supplier to get a price and place an order.
  • That really helps as Halfords have been no help at all apart from charge £300 fior each battery thank you
