  • I love when people from your residential area can be contacted through the forum
  • My battery would not recharge. Spoke to Halfords who told me that batteries shut down (go to sleep) if the get very flat in order to prevent damage. They offer an unsleeping service. If you take the battery in they can send it back to their workshop. I did this the day before shut down so am still awaiting it. Price was quoted at about £50 which is much cheaper than new ones.

  • wheresmeplane, did you receive your battery from Alibaba, all ok? I am thinking of ordering one myself.
  • Hi there. Had same problem after leaving battery for a few months. Green light no charge etc. Bike out of warranty. After lots of searching and no results I found supplier in China. They were very helpful. The Reention Rapier IR III is the Scimitar. Like wheresmeplane, I contacted Jinhua Hengchuang New Energy Co Ltd. Lana Gui, email sales6@cnhengchuang.com was most helpful. Total cost for a replacement battery and charger and postage was $222 (about £188) I paid through Alibaba. First contact with company was  6 June 2020. They kept me up to date with shipping. Battery arrived on 29 July. All OK
  • I have been building e bikes for over 6 years, here is some advice. Learn about lithium batteries ,full stop. They can be tricky if not looked after.   Dead batteries,  try ebikebatteries ask for Jimmy. He is the leading battery repair expert bar none and has invested  thousands in repair kit for these. Very helpful guy ,free with advice.  Another helpful guy is at Woosh bikes ,Southend on sea.  Both will help you even if you bought elsewhere.  For diy try torquetech another pioneer with lots of parts and helpfull as well.  I cannot post links yet but you can  google.
When buying these ebikes  check carefully for backup and support as without this you will be left with a pile of costly junk. You will find that most bike shops steer clear of electrics, too many ongoing problems. This is a rapidy changing sunrise industry so do your research, ask questions, sign up to pedelecs  and read up on the forums. plenty of good advice from  experienced users.   Usual disclaimers, I am a normal  retail customer of the above firms . Ebikes are my hobby only.
  • So in most cases with this batter if its been allowed to "go to sleep" it can simply be woken without the need for any specialist equipment (volt meter would be handy though) or the need to spend a single penny more. You can simply solve this issue yourself.
My wife's battery had been exchanged by Halfords after it would not charge after the winter break, the bike had only covered about 40 miles from new, we had been advised not to leave it with a full charge, so my wife would lower the charge by charging her mobile phone from the USB port, unfortunately she lowered it a little to much and it would not recharge, at this point although although the battery was brand new the warranty  was up on the bike so I was sure Halfords would not give me another battery. Being quite sure of sorting out the problem I opened up the case to check the polarity of the output connector with was showing zero volts, and with two pieces of wire I charged the battery with the standard charger via the output connector, after 30 mins I was able to revert to the normal input with the charger and bingo, the light went red and it was charging as normal. xxxxx Now for the disclaimer xxxxxxxx   I am not saying this is the way to do it, I'm saying this is the way I did it. Therefore which way you do it is your decision.
  • I have the same issue my Carrera Crosscity ebike battery and want to crack open the case to see if I can wake it up.
My only concern is that it's not easy to get the case open. I've undone all likely screws but it seems to be held closed by glue or something.
I don't want to force it open and cause damage.
    Any advice?

Here are the symptoms I had with a Carrera Crosscity: it was working correctly last year, then it was left over the winter and now on the first attempt to use it this spring it did not work. The bike display did not come on and the charger LED went immediately from RED to GREEN when connecting the battery.

With the battery removed and the switch turned on, there was no voltage present on the +/- terminals of the battery connector. I checked that there was voltage on the charger's plug, so I knew that there was something wrong with the battery.

It goes without saying, if you are going to open up the battery pack then you need to be very careful, it is energy dense, and you don't want to short anything out! I disassembled the pack and measured about 40V across the main connection points to the end cells, so I knew that it was unlikely that there was a problem with them.

I then suspected the BMS and so I carefully removed that from the pack to inspect. In doing so, I discovered that 4 of the 0603 SMT inductors (arrowed in the photo) were measuring open circuit. They should be less than 1 ohm. They didn't look electrically damaged, they looked like the metal end-caps were corroded, so it could have been a manufacturing problem since there were no signs of water ingress.

I replaced the faulty inductors with some new ones and that fixed the problem with the pack, the battery charged, and the bike worked. The exact inductance of the inductors is not that important, they are probably only there for EMC purposes. You could just remove any faulty inductors and replace them with a thin piece of wire, just be careful that you don't short anything else out!

I hope that is helpful to someone else.
