Return advance train tickets

I am going to purchase Glasgow to Manchester airport advance train tickets for june. They are due to come online soon but wondered if I should wait until the return journeys come up for sale? Or buy a single at the cheaper price and hope that the return tickets are the same. Any advice

Two advance singles will be cheaper than off peak or anytime returns, but you miss out on flexibility.
For example that route in early May has advanced singles for £15 to £20 each way. Returns start from £88.
I have not looked into split ticket options.
