Goldfish as table centres?!
Omg! I've just heard about a guy who came home from a wedding with 10 goldfish because they'd been put in bowls on the tables and were hat going to be disposed of, probably via a flush afterwards! What is the world co ing to that living creatures are just seen as disposable decorations? And what's next, kittens ?

Keepers of chickens advice
Hello all, I have been keeping a group of 6 pekin bantams for the past few months and have been using Poultry Shield when I do the big weekly clean out. I am wondering what other people use that might be easier and hopefully cheaper for me to get hold of, because at the moment I either have to go out of my way to the…

Medivet - any opinions please (good/bad)
The Vets I've been with for a number of years have just informed clients that their practise has been bought by Medivet. I have found some posts on here about this company, but none of them newer than 2014. So, I wondered, has anyone had any recent experience of using them and could give me their honest opinion on their…

Runt of the litter, Should I be worried?
We got two 12 week old Kittens three weeks ago, Brother and Sister. The girl was the runt of the litter and the size difference between her and her Brother is quite large. The reason I am posting this is because we have never owned a pet before, we waited a year before we got them to be sure, and we didn't want to rush…

Horsey people?
As a youngster I rode often, in my early 20s I had a bad fall and stopped riding. I've since been back in the saddle and I'm wondering whether to loan / buy BUT I want to make sure I can afford it. At the moment I'm paying £20 for a group lesson at the local stables. There's a chance to part loan which is £65 a week riding…

Advice Needed Over Diet for Overweight Cat
I think I need your advice because I have conflicting issues over this. My tabby cat unlike my Bengal is a fussy eater. She will only eat a few wet foods but will eat any biscuits. Because I want the best for them I had for months been feeding them on Cosma Thai (tuna and crab) and Applaws chicken biscuits. I thought the…

Raw diet for cats
Tonight we realised we had forgotten to buy cat food, normally they have Aldi tinned cat food. In a blind panic I raided the cupboards and we gave them some tuna and sardines which they loved. One of them who is very fussy and doesn't eat much, scoffed it. I noticed the same last week when I gave them some raw chicken…

Spaying through a charity?
Morning :) I'm looking for some advice if possible as I've looked at bills due to come out this month and I've remembered that my dog is due to be spayed on the 22nd. I've called the vets and they told me the cost would be circa £170, but I just don't have the money for it. My contract ended in April and I've been looking…

Advice needed - Needle stuck in my dog!
Hi everyone, hoping for some advice on an unusual situation with my lovely Chocolate Lab, Leo. A few weeks ago, he had an operation at the vets to be castrated. The vet put the anaesthetic into the muscle at the top of his right leg, but as she pulled the needle out, he jumped slightly, and the needle snapped off the…

Getting my cat to eat - Feline hepatic lipidosis
Hi all I was just wondering if anyone has experience of nursing a cat through feline hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver syndrome)? My rather large 8yo male is recovering from it... or not recovering, I am not sure. I took him to the vet on Maundy Thursday because he hadn't eaten for a day and a half. He wasn't ill, but he…

Dog unhappy at night in new house
We moved house about 6 weeks ago and our dog is still playing up at night. He runs about pants, barks at any noises outside, whines and is generally distressed. We try to ignore him but it's very hard to sleep. Of course if we do let him in our bedroom he is fine immediately, but we know this is rewarding him and it's…

Adopting a cat
We are considering adopting a cat as a family pet for me, DH and 2 boys aged 9 and 6. I have got in touch with a couple of local rescue centres and one seems to want to move quite quickly by assessing our home etc pretty soon but we don't want to rush into anything and hoped some seasoned cat owners, or those who have…

Tell me about your pets
Share as much or as little as you'd like :) I'm desperate for a cat (or two). I grew up with them so I miss having a feline about the place. Our circumstances aren't quite right to open our doors to any pets just at the moment and my fiance isn't a cat person so he keeps trying to put me off, but soon... :rotfl:

Overactive thyroid
Hello So my old boy (16yr) year old has been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid and is starting medication. I've read that you can get your vet to give you a prescription and you can obtain the medication online far lot cheaper than directly with your vet. How much can I expect a prescription to cost? So, how do you…

Cat Missing - Updated
This happened earlier this evening. My 14 month old Bengal cat got out of the house through the window where the tumble drier hose goes out. It used to be the outside toilet (attached to the house) and normally the door is left shut but was left open. In spite of intensive searching there is no sign of her. We were alerted…

Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!
my son had a beautiful cat for his birthday last year - but in the last couple of months the cat (Barney) has started to behave aggressively to the other cats and the dog. he isn't eating (lost lots of weight), he has stopped grooming himself and is now toileting outside the litter tray. my son has asked me to take Barney…

Environment Enrichment Tips for Dogs, Please
My 10 year old collie x spitz dog's cruciate ligaments have gone, so he's having extremely restricted exercise while they heal as much as they can. He's got a dodgy front leg, too, so he's not a candidate for surgery. He's a rescue that I've had a for a year, and part of his backstory is that until he was nine he lived…

Vet fees and pet insurance: is it a scam?
I live in north-west London with my two rescue dogs. Vet fees locally seem extraordinarily high. Other local pet owners feel the same: we are all constantly amazed by the costs. Is it a scam? When one of my dogs cut his paw walking, the final bill (including anaesthetic and stitching, antibiotics, dressings, protective…

What happens now?
What happens if a dog is hit by a car? Is the dog owner liable for repairs to the car? What insurance covers that?
