Cat Missing - Updated
This happened earlier this evening. My 14 month old Bengal cat got out of the house through the window where the tumble drier hose goes out. It used to be the outside toilet (attached to the house) and normally the door is left shut but was left open. In spite of intensive searching there is no sign of her. We were alerted…

Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!
my son had a beautiful cat for his birthday last year - but in the last couple of months the cat (Barney) has started to behave aggressively to the other cats and the dog. he isn't eating (lost lots of weight), he has stopped grooming himself and is now toileting outside the litter tray. my son has asked me to take Barney…

Environment Enrichment Tips for Dogs, Please
My 10 year old collie x spitz dog's cruciate ligaments have gone, so he's having extremely restricted exercise while they heal as much as they can. He's got a dodgy front leg, too, so he's not a candidate for surgery. He's a rescue that I've had a for a year, and part of his backstory is that until he was nine he lived…

Vet fees and pet insurance: is it a scam?
I live in north-west London with my two rescue dogs. Vet fees locally seem extraordinarily high. Other local pet owners feel the same: we are all constantly amazed by the costs. Is it a scam? When one of my dogs cut his paw walking, the final bill (including anaesthetic and stitching, antibiotics, dressings, protective…

What happens now?
What happens if a dog is hit by a car? Is the dog owner liable for repairs to the car? What insurance covers that?

Has anyone elses dog suffered with pancreatitis
My dog has been quite poorly over the last couple of days and it turns out he has pancreatitis. Just wondering whether anyone else has experienced this problem with their dog? Been looking for info on the internet and it appears they need to be on a low fat diet. Can anyone recommend a dog food brand. I usually feed my dog…

ASDA cat food offer!
Hi everyone I don't know if this is nationwide but just been to my local asda (TUNSTALL Stoke) and they are selling off Felix as good as it looks 44 pack for £6.50 which is half price. They had quite a few and mentioned that felix is potentially rebranding so they are selling them off. Dated until 2018! Good Luck!

Where to find a kitten?
Hello, As some of you know I lost my cat quite sudden a couple of months back and we are now feeling ready to move on to the next generation. Thank you all for your kindness back then. We are waiting to after our holiday, but where is the best place to go to for a kitten. We have said to friends and family if they know of…

Frontline Plus
Just a heads up that Frontline Plus (fipronil and S-methoprene) is no longer a POM medication. It's a highly effective flea/tick repellant but I now expect to see claims that it has become ineffective or fleas have become resistant to it etc, which is exactly what happened when Frontline became available off prescription.…

Cat flap - no draught excluder!
Just had a Sureflap (microchip) cat-flap installed. trouble is around the 'door' there's a gap that will let in the outside cold air in. I'm sure at a previous address with a less sophisticated one - there was a draught excluder along the edge of the door. Do yours have one? Any thoughts, on how I could improvise one?

Easy to maintain budgie cage
Hi, my dad (76) has expressed an interest in having a pet budgie. We had them when I was growing up, we've always been a family of pet lovers. He lives in sheltered accommodation so can't have a dog or cat. One of his neighbours has a budgie and mentioned that a friend of his was looking to rehome one and my dad got quite…

Showing cats
While at the vets yesterday, I had an interrupted (due to being called into the surgery) conversation with a man, who had paid £5000 for a kitten and was angry that the breeder (from the internet but actually a vet) wouldn't give him a pedigree document, saying he had all the paperwork required. Just before I had to leave,…

Semi feral kittens
One of my colleagues is an Eastern European teenager who lives at a group of static caravans on a poultry farm. Evidently there are several cats there and one had three kittens a month ago - under his bed. He has asked me to take them or he will put them outside. They have been using newspaper but not a litter tray, and at…

Microchip controlled cat feeders
We have two cats and one of them is a piggy and hogs the food when it is put down. The other, much smaller cat hangs back until the bigger one's finished. We often shut 'piggy' cat away while we feed the little one. It occurred to me that it may be a good idea to buy the each a food bowl that is activated by their…

I think A Cat Is Being Abused
A lovely black cat across the road from me is looking thin and this week I noticed he had been given a lion cut. He was always a friendly happy soul and loved to sit on my fence and when I went to him he nudged into me and rubbed my head. Now he is a shadow of himself and looks scared and unhappy. He wont even touch any…

Kitten keeps eating cat litter
Hello I picked up two new kittens yesterday. They are not litter trained and keep trying to eat the cat litter! We are keeping a constant eye on them during the day and every time they squat we are placing them in the litter tray to try and train them but I've seen them trying to eat it and I'm worried about them. I was…

Thyroid problem - cat
Our, up until now, 100% healthy 11 year old, "all-sorts" male cat - has just been diagnosed with an overactive Thyroid !! His blood test showed a thyroid level of 180 - whatever that means ? We had thought the worst - that he had diabetes (we previously lost 2 cats through this) The vet has given us 2 options - tablets or…
