Cat facts I never knew
I have a ten year old moggy which i live with. She usually treats the flat like it is hers, coming and going through the back door cat flap as she chooses. I recently watched a cat programme and got some really good facts, For example, the programme mentioned that cats dislike having the end of their whiskers touched, I…

Dog custody and rehoming question
Hello, I'm looking for some advice. My friend and his partner have split up and he would like to rehome his dog. It wasn't an easy decision to make but will be for the best for the dog as he is only 12 months old. He paid for the dog, its registered in the vets in his name and he has paid for all the treatment so far -…

Dog training - Good citizen
I posted here a couple of weeks ago about introducing a dog to a cat and received some very useful and reassuring advice. Happily, they can now be in the same room, with the cat only occasionally launching aerial assaults on the dog and the dog either baffled or cowed by the cat - so thanks! The dog went to a training…

Pet insurance
I was denied insurance when my dog had his first epileptic fit in the first 14 days of a new policy (with the same company) - has anyone ever challenged this as how could I have predicted this - it's like saying they won't cover you to have a road accident in the first 2 weeks of your car insurance - none of us would stand…

Odd puppy behaviour
Not an issue in the slightest but very unusual behavior from my new puppy so was wondering what thoughts were out there on this. Red fox lab !!!!!, owned for less than 2 weeks from age of 9 weeks (so eleven weeks old). We have two other dogs (not sure if relevant). So imagine usual puppy - totally hyper and crazy, plays,…

Dog attack on dog
My dog was attacked by another dog on Thursday evening, it pinned him down trying to bite him and then as my dog tried to run away it bit him on the back of the leg. Owners did nothing just walked off. My dog has been to vets as infection set in despite our tlc and deep bruising to muscle. Presented owner with bill which…

Scratchy dog & flea treatments
Hi, My dog Dexter has had terrible skin conditions for a while - he was very itchy and we couldn't find out what the issue was, he had all sorts of skin scrapes with the vets for tests, food tests etc etc but to no avail. Throughout this I was ensuring that I spot-onned him regularly with flea and tick treatment, just in…

Hi We brought our puppy home on Friday and ever since she has howled as soon as we leave her in the livingroom when we go to bed. I thought it would have subsided a bit by now but it hasn't. Changes to cat food
Why do manufacturers insist on changing the recipes/ingredients in dry cat food ? They are extremely sensitive to change and refuse to eat it...... !! The latest to change their recipes ("NEW IMPROVED") is Royal Canin Our cats, detected the change and now, we are struggling to find an acceptable complete dry food.

What to do with pet rabbit when we're on holiday?
We're only going away for a week but I've a bit of a dilemma on whether to put my bunny in boarding or leave him at home. He absolutely hates travelling and gets very stressed. Even going 2 miles to the vets for his annual vaccinations is a problem. He wets himself and is frozen with fear and shaking constantly. It's so…

Choosing a name?
Hi! We are due to pick up our puppy next Wednesday. She is an adorable golden retriever crossed with a goldendoodle. Everything is set for her arrival but the only thing we don't have is a name! Could anyone help to inspire us? OH doesn't want a 'human' name. I quite liked noodles and biscuit but he said no to both! I've…

Petplan help
Hello, I think we're about to bite the bullet and get insurance for our Bedlington Whippet. Firsty, does anyone know how age effects the premium? Morty is about 4 - 6 years old but we don't really know as she was a rescue. So would I get a better price if we guessed her age at being 4 or 5 years old? After doing some…

Pet (dog) insurance for when living outside UK
Hello, I have two dogs (both male labrador retrievers, an eight year old and a five year old). We're looking at moving to South Korea. Speaking to my pet insurer and reviewing our policy documentation, I understand I would not be covered if we move outside the UK. I've not been able to find any insurers who would cover…

Dog insurance problems
I think I know the answer to this, but just in case I don't... I have a 2 year old cocker spaniel who recently fractured his left elbow. He is slowly recovering after having a plate and screws etc and the insurance (through Debenhams) paid out £2000 as we only had Bronze Insurance and we paid about another £1000 to cover…

Accidental Discount
Visited a garden centre chain at the weekend and saw a lovely huge Joules dog bed marked at 50% off, original price was ~£50. I'd looked at the item a few months ago and remembered it being more expensive that the £50 advertised and so decided to take advantage of the offer. Got to the till and the discount was now 70% so…

Another Stray Cat
I have another cat turned up in the farmyard ten days ago and appears to have moved in (the timing is spooky, as it was 4 days after my elderly cat passed). He/she is living in the undergrowth of the lilac bush and doesn't appear to move from there! Gradually getting more friendly, can now touch top of their head. I have a…
