Over 50
I have just joined this website and I’m finding it extremely interesting to read. There’s a post “over 60”, and people have explained some savings. Is there anything out there for the full time employed over 50s because I’d love to save a couple of pounds each week shopping, even if it was put on a loyalty card for…

Car insurance
Hopefully someone can advice me. My husband has given up driving due to being diagnosed with AMD, so I am now the only driver. I'm 66 years old, have been driving since I was 21 years old, but have not had my own car for ten years. I have been a named driver on my husbands insurance and have done most of the driving for at…

This time has now passed and I have not heard anything. Does anyone know a telephone number who I can contact to chase them up. TIA

Age 60+ "Asda" cafe £1.00 meal deal
During Nov and Dec "Asda" cafe are offering for £1.00 a bowl of soup and roll, and unlimited hot drinks. All day, every day. (I don't think this is available in stores where the cafe is run as a concession, e.g. my local store has a McDonald's instead of a regular store cafe).

Yesterday's budget and £300 announced for pensioners.
Can anybody tell me is this is a new cost of living payment for next year, or is it the same one that pensioners have already started receiving? Thank you.

From the autumn eight million state pension households will receive an extra £300
This appears not to be £300 per State Pensioner but rather £300 for each household where a single pensioner lives. How would this payment be made where two or more pensioners live in one household? In my household currently, I am 66 and get a £100 Winter Fuel Payment and my father in law aged 87 gets £200. How would the…

Walking frame (Zimmer)
My 94-year-old mother was provided by the hospital with a walking frame with wheels at the front following a hip fracture. She is dependent on this for moving about within her apartment. She wants to know whether a frame with wheels at the front is suitable for use outside her apartment. I seem to remember that Zimmer…

Council help with 24 hour care
My 102 year old mother still lives at home. My two siblings and I have been helping her but she now needs 24 hour care. She doesn’t want to go into a home and sell her house. We are looking into 24 hour care. At the moment she has over the £23,000 savings cap for council help. If she was to have 24 hour care at say £1500 a…

Mortgage almost paid off - now what?!!
Hi. An infrequent MSE user, I’m about £5k away from paying off the mortgage on a 3-bed end-terrace house — and I’m somehow terrified! Are there downsides to paying off mortgage? I saw a discussion that said lenders like to know you owe money to other organisations: could being mortgage-free get in the way of deals for car,…

Off grid help
Hi all, I live on a narrowboat and have been told by my supplier that the price of coal and wood is going up a lot this winter and I wondered if there is help for people living on narrowboats etc as we are not seemingly covered by the energy help by the government, not that I have heard anyway. At £15+ per bag of coal now…

Shared accommodation for OAP?
I am fearful of the future. Over a number of years I have been able to live frugally in shared accommodation on £350 a month with bills included found via https://www.spareroom.com/ However I'm fearful that as I get older shared accomodation on £450 a month or less (bills inc) may become less available as landlords may…

Equity Release Arrangement Fees
I see that some lenders offer lifetime mortgages as fee-free or fee-paid. E.g. “Standard Life Horizon 600 Lump Sum Fee-free” has no arrangement fee and an interest rate of 5.16% or the same mortgage as Fee-paid with an arrangement fee of £995 at 5.23%. Can anyone explain this? My wild guess is that, for the free version,…
