Retirement - Who do we tell?
My wife and I handed our notice in at work a month ago, and we finish up just before Christmas. We’re almost 59, and have been thinking about it for a while now. We know we’re doing the right thing. Who do we need to tell that we have retired? Insurance companies?, Bank? etc. We’ve no idea who, if anyone, we need to tell?

How much to buy out each other regarding properties etc....big headache!!
Hi all. I wonder if anyone can give advice as it's all a bit
of a headache! My ex-wife and I have been divorced for sixteen years but never
really settled financially. At the time of divorce, we owned two properties. A
property 200 miles away that we rented out was in both names, it’s now worth
£200k and has no mortgage.…

Energy Bills
Martins advice is to do nothing, and go on the Cap. However, my present 2yr fixed term with SSE ends 10 Dec. New offer is either Standard at about 774 Pounds/yr -(est 65 per mth) or 3yr fixed v2 at 1072/yr--est 90 /mth. I'm a pensioner, 80 yrs old, on State pension only income. I'm very careful with my energy…

Self help thread. I am a widow coping getting on with it
Just wanted to put this thread on to replace the missing one. Worried that some people who have been following the old thread might really need it sometime and won't get the support they need/want. It has, and still does, help me.;)

How to find the right Financial Advisor
I want to find out the different options available to me, and I'm not sure who to approach to ask for it. I currently live in a house that's joint-owned with my husband. My late parents have left a house jointly to my 3 siblings and myself. My husband has health problems and it's very likely he will need to go into…

Downsizing - am thinking about - how have others done downsizing?
Large 4 bedroom house but in a desireable location next to a park with view over a man made lake. But am thinking of ridding myself of stuff and looking to move (possibly). How have others approached downsizing - what are the tips? What are the pros and cons? Did family approve? If not how did you mitigate this?

Mortgages for the over 55s
The "Should you equity release?" guide does not mention mortgages for those over 55 ears of age. I have no mortgage and own my own home. I'm in my 60s and would like to help my son to buy his own home by giving him the deposit. I plan to raise the money using a mortgage (on my home) for the over 55s from a leading high…

Two cars, or not two cars, that is the question.
We've always been a 2 car household. It makes sense for us whilst we are both working - different working times (I work shifts) We are looking to retire in 18 months or so, and we've been thinking about scaling down to 1 car between us. This would obviously be a large money saver. I wondered if any others have done the…

Completing National Insurance Record when not working
I reach the age of 67 in October 2035 which I believe that will be the state retirement age for men at that time. I currently have 24 years of NI contributions. You need 35 years in order to get the full state pension. I'm not currently working, but am able to afford voluntary contributions. I think they are about…

Tiny House UK?
We are both retired, last of the kids flown the nest and we really need to downsize. My daughter and son in law are thinking of buying a plot of agricultural land very close to their home, maybe a few acres as my wife wants her own allotment and I want to farm Guinea pigs, rabbits for meat and a couple of chickens for…

The value of things
Some time ago I created a post 'obsessed with saving' which created some interesting comments/discussion. Our situation is that we now have a healthy income/savings but I was more interested in saving than spending. Since the post I have changed a little and am prepared to see our capital reducing but the problem I still…

I feel betrayed
I have always been money savvy. My husband has always hated to discuss money. We have had separate bank accounts all of our married life (46 years) and been separated financially, apart from a mortgage. We are now mortgage free. About 7 years ago, I stumbled on a SO for £100 pcm on the Lottery. When I pointed out how much…
