Paying Class 2 voluntary NI contributions

Hi, I hope I have come to the right place!
I attempted to make a payment to HMRC today. ie Making up a missing National Insurance 'gap' in my NI contributions from 2015-16. During that period I was self employed (I was running small CIC). However, the HMRC member explained that although I had been self employed during 2015-16 - that deadline had expired in 2017 and that I needed now to pay full years Class 3 NI (which was much more expensive ~ £880). Is this actually the case and could I challenge it? I am 65 by the way. Thanks.

You would be better posting in the Pensions forum,
There have been daily posts regarding NI contributions for months .

You might want to check your forecast carefully. When I got my pension I was surprised to find the forecast was missing a few years.
