Radio for someone with poor eyesight
I have a relative in a care home, and she currently uses a very old DAB radio (one of the very earliest ones produced, I think). The reception is poor and we would like to replace it. But she has very poor eyesight, and a recent stroke means she doesn't find small, close-together buttons easy to use - she only has the use…

Are private hearing aids better than NHS?
I've had NHS hearing aids now for a year. I've been back to audiology dept several times as they're just not right. In a social setting, i.e. meeting, party, etc., they're completely useless as all they do is amplify the background noise meaning I still can't hear people talking. In fact, over Christmas, I found I could…

Lights from Serious Readers

Specsavers hearing tests (and hearing aids)
Relative has an appointment coming up with Specsavers for a hearing test. It's a 90 minute appointment, but I can't believe Specsavers are going to spend anywhere remotely near an hour and a half on a hearing test. I'm guessing it will be about half an hour (if that) for the hearing test, and the rest of the time trying to…

Ways to spend a lump sum on a special holiday
Hi I am looking for advice and wonder if anyone else has encountered and overcome a similar problem. This is my first post so apologies if this is inappropriate. I have just…

My Mum is 81, with no regular income other than her state pension (about £600/month). A few years ago, she sold her flat and moved into a rented retirement flat.
