Dirty Coal
We buy smokeless eggs for the stove and lately its got really dirty. Every day when I dust I'm getting tons of black gritty horrible dust - not just a film of it either - loads of it. Sweep is due next month. Might ask coalman for something else, but husband was cleaning the flue out and is asking what exactly that's for?…

Pipe stats for boiler stove
Please can I ask for advice. I have a Hunter Herald 8 boiler stove that was fitted six years ago and I have recently been told that it should have two pipe thermostats to control the pump that works the downstairs radiators. I've looked at the Herald instructions and this seems to be correct but I want to make sure that…

For those in the know, or those that have had them fitted already, can you advise if there is anything in particular that I should look for on the install to make sure it's done, and done proper? Prepayment meters for people in supported living
My nephew is autistic and lives in a property in a supported living scheme, along with three other young adults and their carers. It seems they have no option but to be on prepayment meters for electricity. As a result, they will have higher bills than necessary. Has anyone else on this forum encountered this issue?

Charge to check prepayment meter?
My brother and sister in law have a prepayment meter and are convinced it's faulty and is over charging them. Utility Warehouse are saying they'll charge them £100 to come and check it- are they allowed to do that? Thanks in advance.

Possible central heating oil leak
I live in a semi detached house, over the last number of days I have noticed a smell which smells like paint drying. A visitor to the house joked about my painting. My attached neighbour has a similar smell and I can smell it at a door saddle, on the patio doors which lead to the outside. Both houses have outside boilers,…

We use it for heating, cooking and hot water and with 4 children we do…

Cheap non internet fuel deals
My mother (90) is not on the internet. What is the best way to get the best deal for her, short of me contacting all the energy providers? Or should I just contact the best deals offered my MSE and see if they will offer her a deal via me? Many thanks,

Economy 7 problems / removal
Any help welcome! Started a small cafe business in a small cottage type building, very small, very manageable so I thought. Signed up for the best electric provider I could find at the time BES utilities. Thought the set up already here couldn't be bad, economy 7 metre night & day rates, did not put much thought into it at…

Sent fire wood delivery back...
Hi everyone I'm wondering if anyone is experienced when it comes to buying seasoned fire wood from dealers? We've never bought wood before so as stocks were running low I ordered some locally from a company that are well established. On their website they promise 18 month seasoned hardwood reading 15-25% moisture. Now…

National grid - alternative heating and cooking equipment
Hi, I recently was without gas for 5 days. National grid gave me a electric fan heater and stove. Are these on loan, how do I give them back? Or do I accept them as compensation for 5 days of cold showers? I know there is compensation of 30 pound per day but that depends if it is their fault for the disconnection.

Butler Fuels heating oil expensive
Butler fuels are expensive, really expensive. We moved into our house in Gloucestershire last year and signed up with the heating oil supplier that the previous owner had used - Butler Fuels. After a phone conversation about the benefits of the Butler Fuels top up scheme, I agreed to let them use some 'clever' software to…

New Central Heating System Hot in Hall / Cold in Lounge
We've recently had a new central heating system installed with a combi boiler and a wireless thermostat in the hall. All the radiators (except the one in the hall which is permanently on) have TRVs. The problem is the hall radiator is far too hot and it's not possible to turn it down manually. The radiator in the lounge…

Storage heater and recommended other kind of heater?
Have two storage heaters in flat. Turned them on but no heat came out? How do you use these ? How does the fuse box like storage heater box work? I think I need a heater which pumps out heat quickly as well, but not a plugged in convection heater, something which looks homely and nice in the flat, which is all electric.…

Gas prices lowered OR NOT
I have just switch our duel fuel energy tariff, partly because it was coming to an end. Now this is the interesting bit....Gas prices. Yes the cost of the GAS has gone down from the tariff we were on (a fixed price tariff of 15 months old) from 2.88p per unit to 2.274p per unit. A cost reduction of 22% reduction in the…

Worcester Bosch V Grants oil boiler
We have a 23 year old worchester boiler that is needing replaced and we've had a few quotes, some for Worcester Bosch and one for a Grants boiler. There isn't much difference in price but Grants isn't a company I've heard off but the local fitters (who cone recommended) claim it's the best out there. Does anyone have any…
