2 electric meters registered at property

Help Please....
My energy tariff cam to an end on 15/07/2016, so I went onto Uswitch to do a price compare and decided to go with Scottish Power on 09/07/2016.
I received a confirmation email from Uswitch, so all seemed fine, but I never heard from Scottish Power. I called them around 20/07/2016 and they said that they had not received any information from Uswitch, but offered to change my electric over from EON anyway.
Apparently I have two meters registered at my property (EON took out the pay as you go meter when I moved in 3 years ago, and put a standard one in), and they can't switch it until the other is unregistered.
So.....another 2 weeks on and 4 phone calls later, it's still not sorted!!
Has anyone come across this before, and can I do this myself. Or if I switch to a different company will I still have the same result? I haven't spoken to EON about it either.
Thank you
Oh yes the property was on E7, but I asked to have this changed when the new meter went in, as I put a new heating system in (not sure if that makes any difference!!)

Hello michbridie and welcome to the Forums.

Sorry about this. The old meter should've been de-registered when it was replaced with a credit meter 3 years ago. This wouldn't have affected the new meter or the billing but, as you've found, it does have an impact when you want to switch. As your current supplier, we need to do this. Under industry regulations it's not something a prospective supplier can arrange.

Don't worry, we've a specialist team who'll look after this. If you drop an email to the address in my Profile, I'll ask them to sort this so you can change supplier. It'll help speed things up if you let me know the meter serial number (usually on a plaque on the front of the meter) and up to date readings. Also, if still there, details from any labels or tags the engineer might have attached to the meter or meter board when the meter was changed. Alternatively, if you ring the number on your bills, an advisor can talk to this team (Historic Meter Corrections) and start the ball rolling. Lines are open until 6pm tomorrow and from 8am to 8pm weekdays (closed Sundays).

Sorry again we didn't do this 3 years ago michbridie. Hope this points you in the right direction.
