solid fuel Rayburn.
Have found a property where heating and hot water come from a solid fuel Rayburn.. I assume this means coal/coke or similar and my initial reaction is not too keen on endlessly carry coal indoors to feed it and presumably cleaning it out too. Is this how it would work? In the 21st century? This seems to be a newly…

British Gas - Licence to print money
A couple of years ago I subscribed to the British Gas Homecare 200 for annual boiler servicing and repairs. Admittedly it was explained that there was a £99.00 excess charge applicable and I accept that this was set out in further detail in British Gas' Terms and Conditions. Admittedly, like many others I failed to give…

Heating costs, gas and electricity compared
Tired of my gas central heating forever going wrong I bought some portable electric heaters, initially as a temporary measure but despite being advised they would cost a fortune to run they did a least work and decided as an experiment to install panel/convectors (NOT STORAGE HEATERS) throughout the house. If they didn't…

Moving and OVO smart meter account
Hi I'm moving from my rental property soon. When i moved in, i switched from BG to OVO payg as I wouldn't need to go to a shop to top up. Now I'm leaving, how do i hand it over to a new tenant? I have no keys/cards to leave them, so how will they be able to top up? Surely it'll take some time to set up a new account with…

Any mathematicians out there?
Would anybody know roughly how much it would cost to run 2x28w aquarium fluorescent bulbs for 12 hours per day for one year? I'm asking this as I'm thinking of replacing them with a far lower wattage LED.

Does RHI for heat pumps a measure of electrical energy or heat output?
Hello Apparently the RHI (Renewable Heat Initiative) that the UK government gives domestic users for a ground source heat pump is "19.33p per kWh" But given that a heat pump generates about 4 kWh of heat for every 1 kWh of electricity used, are they talking about electrical energy used OR heat energy generated? Apologies…

Conservatory Heating - Economy 10 with weird boiler
Hi all, We are having a conservatory built and I am unsure how to heat it. Gas is not an option. Our existing heating system is a weird night storage boiler called a Nightstor, as a new user I cannot post links so you will have to google in order to appreciate the system, I think it's quite clever. This feeds a wet heating…
