Winter Flame Heat Logs

Hi everyone

Im after any reviews of the winter flame heat logs, ALDI are selling them today as part of their special buys.

I have had the UK Heat logs they were selling last year, they were ok but expanded quite a lot nice heat off them though and jmust wondered if anyone had used the Winter Flame

I use VERDO logs, from Home Bargains. £2.79 for a pack of six (10kg) they burn long and hot.

I use verdo and they very good but do take a while to get hot due to fact they very dense, have to use a little more kindling burning them to get them started.I usually buy them from home bargains but this year got a large load direct from Verdo.

Haven't tried hotties but use to have these delivered three years in a row https://www.luxurywood.co.uk/heat-logs/960kg-eco-briquette-heat-logs-detail
  • thanks.

Woof wood fuel are selling a quarter pallets of hotties for £102 which is about £50 cheaper than other places and i have heard good things about them but the verdo are £70 and i know a lot of people like the verdo here but are they not the same as the crumbly aldi uk heat logs that i still have 10 boxes left as they were not good

I've only tried Hotties once, several years ago and can't remember what they were like. As said above, the VERDOs are very dense and take a bit of going but they burn hot and fairly long without too much expansion.

If you've got a Home Bargains fairly close, go a get a pack to try them. They'll deliver a whole pallet (160 packs, 960 logs for £279 incl delivery) or £2.79 a pack from the shop.

We can't accommodate a whole pallet in a dry place so I order them for click & collect, 24 packs at a time and use them mixed with free wood/logs so they go a long way.

We've just been on holiday to a place that had a log burner (a Much Wenlock) which consumed them a lot faster than our Mendip Churchill 6 so a lot depends on the type of stove you've got as well.

i went and got 10 packs of the verdo from home bargains to try them out. Cant be any worse than the aldi ones from last year which ill use as my kindling.

    I only have a 5KW Firefox 5 so a really small stove.
  • Verdo are pretty well liked I think, and pretty cheap. However, they're a pressed briquette whereas Hotties are extruded. Extruded briquettes are generally a lot denser and tend to last longer, while suffering none of the expansion that many pressed ones exhibit. A briquette that expands will not generally last as long, as the increasing surface area means a larger area exposed to combustion air - meaning it will burn away faster. Hotties tend to maintain their shape and size right through the burn. Extruded briquettes are also much less affected by moisture in the air. We've had pressed briquettes that we kept in the workshop that swelled up so much they split their boxes

Yes - Hotties are one of the more expensive briquettes - but they were the only ones we used to sell year in year out. We offered cheaper alternatives from time to time such as UK heatlogs - and everyone that bought them went straight back to Hotties afterwards - said that although they cost more on paper, they were actually cheaper to use as they lasted so much longer. This was the exact same conclusion that we'd come to with our own stoves at home.
  • Hi, I bought a whole load from aldi, they get going quicker than the UK heat logs and last similar times. Not as hot as UK heat logs thjo. I am trying things out ATM; will give the hotties a try or the verdo to see which suits my needs. I have a Churchill 5 stove and smokeless briquette coal seems to produce the best heat thus far and last longest, but quite dear! I will get totthe right fuel at some point!
  • BTW, does anyone have experience of flame fast logs?
  • The verdo do seem quite good. They burn for about an hour and then glow for a good 30 mins after that. They do take a while to start, 20 mins or so but I'm pleased. Heat has kept quite well n the room as well.
