  • just an update did a test with the ALDI UKheat logs as i still have a lot of boxes left.

They give a really fast heat, room up from 18 to 26 in about an 1 h 15 m. They almost burn out after 30 mins and have used 2 where i used 1 verdo log in the same time frame. Heat does not last long though and temp started dropping a lot sooner although nothing beats coal for keeping temp the verdo were a lot better. think ill burn these off during the mild weather and save the logs and verdo for proper winter.

I tried a packet of the latest Aldi offering in my Firefox 5 Multi-fuel clean burn, they were OK but nothing special and I won't be buying any more!

Last year I was using Verdo to light the stove and then Excell briquettes (A Nestro type briquette from WHE) once it was up and running.

This year WHE have stopped selling the Excell so I have sampled loads of briquettes and have found the best to be Pini-Kay (Hotties are but one brand of this type of briquette), they can be had from a number of sources for £300 a pallet so around £3 a pack of twelve. break one briquette into small pieces and light with the aid of a firelighter and no need for kindling, used whole will burn for about 40 min giving loads of heat, by far the best I have used, better even than last years Excells, I wont be buying anything else.
