High gas connection quote

Please help.

Bought my first house which had no gas central heating or gas connection. Contacted Scottish Gas Network for a quote, £625 to connect gas, excavate etc. They then advised that cannot connect as ES Pipelines own the network in my area.

Contacted ES Pipelines for a quote, £915. A few weeks later, while I was applying for a loan through Home Energy Scotland (Green Deal) I received a further letter stating they have changed contractor and the new one is more expensive. Requested a new quote and the price is now £2315!

As the quote includes excavation, backfill and reinstatement I can knock possibly a few hundred off however the quote is still unreasonably high.

While waiting for the 2nd quote and due to time taken I have had the boiler and radiators installed.

Any advice welcome.

Thanks

Get a quote from a local builder to do the digging etc so they only lay and connect the pipes that might work out cheaper.
