What a con from Calor Gas
Just had a sales rep from Calor on the phone offering LPG @ 49p per litre fixed for 12 months with a possible increase of 3.5p per 3 months there after. So could be 0.63ppl; after 2 years, but you can pull out after 12 months if the rise is more than 3.5p in any one quarter. I said ok, please send the details via email.…

Calor Gas trying to retro charge for a previous property
Hi, I moved out of my previous home approx. 10 months ago. It had an LPG tank in the garden, so off mains, and I paid Calor gas a monthly direct debit for supply. They would monitor the meter and auto-fill it up when needed. They have contacted me to say they incorrectly charged the occupants prior to myself for two fuel…

Phasing out oil boilers - can anyone give me the definitive situation!
Hi It's such a nice idea that the internet and information age makes getting answers and gathering knowledge much easier. But so often it seems the opposite is true! I was chatting with a boiler engineer yesterday. I thought new oil boilers were being banned from 2025/2026 and that while you won't have to get rid of an…

Solid fuel boiler stoves
Our trusty Stovax Stockton 8 is on its last legs. With no mains gas and no real way to get an oil tank and pipe across a shared track to the house we need a new solid fuel boiler stove and an installer! With the new Eco regulations this is seeming like an impossible task.Has anyone been successful recently in getting a new…

Unsure which heating system to purchase
Hello, We have purchased a property that has old storage heaters. I’m unsure whether to install an electric or gas boiler - I know electric is 3x more expensive but feel like this will be the future. It’s a 2 bedroom flat so heat pump not an option. Thanks

From Tree to Logs...How?
As the title says. What is the correct way of chopping down a tree (needed to come down) to producing logs for a burner? Last year we took an Ash tree down and split in to logs within a few weeks, stacked and stored them. Obviously not ready to use them this year. We are going to be taking down some Sycamores this winter.…

Hi Folks, Just received a letter informing me that the ppl will increase from my current price of 51ppl to 63ppl when the 2nd year of my contract starts at the end of September. Solar panel efficiency
I have a house with a flat roof and am interested in installing solar panels. However, in principle, we do not use enough electricity to make solar panels worthwhile. However it occurs to me that there should be a substantial increase in the "efficiency" of the panels if they are simply moved once or twice a day. Is anyone…

Real kWH costs of solid fuel
Hi Does anyone have any real world information or case studies on the efficiency of solid fuels and stoves? Wherever I can find a…

Solar batteries
Hi All what if any experience have people had with Solar batteries. ?? I already have solar panels on my roof , and have had a quote for a battery pack to be fitted along side my monitor in my store. Backboiler newbie
Hi, If all goes to plan we're buying a house with a backboiler in an open fire (Dunsley solid fuel central heating boiler) vendor tells us it heats water and radiators too. There's also oil fired central heating for when the fire isn't in use. I know zero about backboilers, so would be interested to hear what people think…

The infamous Alternative Fuel Payment
I never did get this, despite having used LPG for the last 26 years. The reason turned out to be that my property (or a version of its address) was incorrectly recorded as having a mains gas supply. It took me 6 months to get this error corrected and when it eventually was it was a day before the scheme finally closed…

Cost Saving of Wood Burner (kw/h gas consumption reduction v's cubic meters of wood burnt).
I am considering the pro's and cons of getting a wood burner fitted to offset the cost of gas central heating (which I intend to keep). The only option I have available to me is an inset wood burner, as opposed to a free standing one. The inset wood burner would be installed into the space vacated by our old gas simulation…

Coal Bunker
I burn around 250kg of solid fuel each winter. The bags do not look attractive when stored in the back garden and I find it inconvenient to shovel the fuel into the coal skuttle. I have space at the side of the house to install a bunker. What are the pros and cons of bunkers and does anyone know of a suitable size, make…

Multi fuel back boiler taking ages to heat up
I've had a multi fuel stove with back boiler installed and connected to my hot water and central heating. It works 8 radiators and was told the stove was more than enough for this number. It's taking almost 2 hours for the pump to kick in and heat the radiators. I've used just wood and then tried using coal and still takes…

BAXI ECOGEN gas boiler micro chp
Does anyone out there have one of these? I had one installed in 2011. There were problems with it, and it was replaced in 2013. I had a maintenance contract with Baxi, that included an annual service. But when I phoned to make an appointment for this year's service in july, They told me they had cancelled the contract…

Calor - what is going on? (Online account system unavailable for 3 months now)
We have bulk LPG supplied by Calor. We got a letter in May to say Calor Account Online (where we see our bills, next delivery date, etc) would be offline for a couple of weeks for a system upgrade. It's still offline! They just keep saying "It's taking longer than we'd hoped." I've worked on big IT projects and if one had…
