saving for a house part 2
Hi, This is my first post but hopefully I shall be using the forums quite a bit. I have decided to do a money saving diary as I really need some motivation to get my finances back on track. I know people are struggling on this forum so I'm not trying to compare myself to any one, just trying to crawl out of the rut that I…

Freedom Diary
My New Years resolution is a tad early but I need to start writing down my experience of paying off debt so I don't slip. It's so easy to fall back into old ways. Firstly I have £4,080 worth of debt. To some that may seem a lot and to others not very much depending on what debts you have yourself. For me it's excruciating.…

Advice welcomed
Hello all, my family and I have just been given [this doesn't happen often!] 15,000 Euros in cash from a relative as an inheritance. It's bought great relief because we have been struggling. We hope to use it as a deposit for a house in the future - with other savings 20,000 Euros in total. But in the meantime, we are not…

Saving for a place of my own: Starting over
Hi, this isn't my first time writing a saving diary here. In 2013 I wrote here about my quest to save a deposit and move out of my parent's house. I worked hard and saved a nice little sum but then everything went a bit wrong. I had some medical issues (anxiety and panic attacks) which meant I had to leave my job. I didn't…

Money Saving With Determination
Back in 2010 we had other things on our mind, our son was born so free time was little. Prior to this we were dedicated money savers and regularly checked on what we had been paying for things. I said to my good lady this evening right time to get back on the ball with out bills. I have only switched energy and house and…

The 3 year plan
I'm Clare, I'm 25, married and have a 20(ish) month old daughter. I have always been reckless with money - it burns a hole in my pocket. We currently live in a house owned by my husband and his cousin (weird, I know). His cousin lives in London at the moment and has no plans to return "home" - which is good. However, I…

Are you more well off than you say you are?
For the last few years ive always put some money aside from my wages which i then do not consider part of my spending budget. Ive continued to do this for every pay so once my spending budget is gone i wont go out with friends or go for meals (basically spend on treats) ive always said to friends i have no money to do this…

Should I save?
Hello I have been reading some articles about saving on MSE and I am surprised to see that its not always a good idea to save when you have debt. I have recently become debt free with the exception of my mortgage. I don't really think of my mortgage as a debt, but an asset and I am already overpaying, therefore I can pay…

Fed Up with First Utility.......
Signed up to F.U. last May through Uswitch for both gas and leccy. Had no problem with leccy, but issues with swoping gas across, this went on for several months and each time I rang them, I was told the problem had been resolved and I would be online in 4-6 weeks time, which in itself was a problem as I'd forget to check.…

Home Insurance saving of £750+
I spend allot of time looking after the financial affairs of elderly relatives. Prompted by Martin's TV appearances I checked my House Building and Contents renewal when I came through from Churchill. It was £930 including £50 interest on the monthly instalments. Going on line, shopping around I got better cover for £180…

Cheap family recipes website offline?
I used to use the cheap-family-recipes.org.uk website but the last time I went to visit it, it was offline. I've sent a message to lesleygcooper but haven't had an answer. Does anyone know what's going on? I decided to put it back online but the website isn't available so I registered cheap-family-recipes.org and put it up…

Vax Sale
This weeks email actually came in handy for me for a large purchase (I've had a few small savings/freebies from previous emails but nothing worth shouting much about and don't make many larger purchases). I've been putting some money away to get myself a new Vax pet vacuum cleaner after Christmas and saw the Vax sale…
