Apologies if this is too basic, but I've never had to check my credit rating before but recently refused a credit card application and the bank cannot tell me why but say to check equifax to make sure all is clear. I can think of nothing odd, zero debt, plenty of money, no strange transactions, been at current address 6…

Credit score goes from 999 to 0 by changing something?
Hi all, I recently changed the criteria on which my credit score is based - I had 1 dependent, though changed this to 0 as son has left home and is now working. My score was then reset to zero! Does it recalculate at some point or have i done something horribly wrong? Thanks

Section 75 Time limit of 1 year ?
Tried to get a Section 75 Claim through Halifax but was told it was only a 1 year thing. I did argue that regardless the product was failing since just after 1 year and the company fobbed me off then and again last week. It was a sofa with faux leather ( I did not realise at the time ) but started to de laminate badly. It…

My credit score has bombed because I made a genuine mistatke
Hello to All, I recently checked my credit score which had been at 976. To my horror it had dropped to 492! I realized I had mad a big mistake. In February I made a balance transfer to MBNA as they offered 0% interest until March 2024. What I hadn't done was set the account to minimum payment so they had tried taking the…

Natwest 'blacklist' auto-decline
In or around 2004 I defaulted on a credit card with Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). In 2012 I opened a bank account with Natwest. At the same time I applied and was given a credit card and granted a 1K overdraft. For a few years I was using the credit card and was, towards the end of month into my overdraft before it was…

Are soft/eligibility checks linked if made close together?
I have a default (my only one) dropping off my credit file on or around 7th July (I know it can take up to another 28 days but it usually doesn't) . I have done a few eligibility tests with credit card companies over the last week or so (a mix of likely accept and decline). I am wondering if, by next week my default is…

Closing credit cards before house completion?
We have a couple of credit cards that while we clear balances every month, they are not giving us much benefit in terms of points or cashback so we were thinking of closing them for a new credit card. We have already exchanged for a new house and expect to complete by end of this month, so a 0% credit card might be useful…

Removing CIFAS Marker
Hi Guys, I had applied for a M Plus Account to Virgin Money online, was rejected a few days after and didn't think much of it. Bounced energy DD but immediately paid after
Hi, I pay my eon next energy bill by direct debit each month and have always paid on time. I bank with Starling and have a bills pot that my DDs come out of. Yesterday however there wasn’t quite enough funds in the pot (my fault) and I didn’t get to it in time before the payment had declined. I immediately spoke to EON…

TSB changed default date
Hi everyone, I had a loan with TSB which went into default in May 2016. I entered into a DPP as part of the Debt Arrangement Scheme (Scotland) in September 2016, this loan was included. In May 2022 the account disappeared from all CRA, as it should have done. I was left a sum of money which meant I paid the DPP off early…
