UC review and holidays
Hi there My husband and I both work full time. We have disabled children and get UC as well as DLA for one, PIP for me and the caring element of UC. We have booked an expensive holiday (£11k) for next autumn. It’s where my disabled eldest has always wanted to go. It’ll be a case of paying off every month, basically the DLA…

UC meetings self employed
We recently moved from tax credits to universal credit. My husband has been self-employed for 4 years. We earn way above our minimum income floor between us (our minimum income floor is low as I'm not expected to do any hours due to caring responsibilities but between us we earn almost double our MIF). As we've only…

Help me understand how this process works please? UC & WCA
Hi. So son was unemployed and we went to job centre. Due to him being on the autistic spectrum we agreed lower/part time work and type of work roles. Job coach asked for a fit note and it basically confirms may be fit for work with suitable amendments. This triggered a UC-50/WCA. we did this last week F2F (nothing heard…

Tax Credit Overpayment during a period of mental health
Its quite a bit complicated, so please bear with me. In 2015, my then girlfriend and I had a baby who was born sleeping. Our daughter was 36 weeks. Only weeks later, my then girlfriend found out she had terminal cancer and died after 3 weeks. We got married just 3 days before she died. We was both aged just 36. As you can…

Can a widow receive late husband's State Pension arrears?
Can a widow (78) receive her late husband's state pension arrears? Does anyone know? The arrears were applied for before the husband passed away. The couple lived/live overseas and the widow has never applied for her own state pension. Husband and wife were/are UK citizens. She is his heir, and they have two adult…

UC meetings
How often should an 18 year old be expected to have work searching meetings. And if the work coach is away then what happens. Son has been claiming since September 2023 and I grilled his work coach today about his sanction and have come to the conclusion she would struggle to get her shoes on the right feet if they weren’t…

On benefits and soon to receive an inheritance, what next?
Our father died intestate, (divorced and never remarried) so each of his children will receive equal share of estate, roughly £40k each. One of my siblings is in receipt of means tested benefits, currently living with our mother in a council house. Our Mum is only person on tenancy and has never done a right to buy despite…

Housing benefit
Yesterday I received a letter from my council telling me that my direct debit for my rent will change to £100 more a month. I rang them and was told that because my sons ESA went up I now get less housing benefit. They said something about a threshold for households but I can't really find out anything about it.

UC Age difference
Hi I'm trying to move house and been offered a property, private rent. But we have got to go over to UC. They are saying we can only get £32 towards a £700 rent! Apparently this is due to the fact I am of working age, even thought I'm disabled and unable to work and my husband is retired and is on state pension. There is…

Re: In debt and wanting to cash in a £7.5k pension to pay some off.
Hi All I receive ESA, but am in debt to the tune of £10k, I have spoken to the ESA helpline to see whether I can withdraw the pension to offset most of that debt. But the helpline told me, yes I can withdraw it, I then have to tell them that I've withdrawn it, and it has then got to go to a Senior Decision Maker to whether…

PIP Reassessment
I’m around 7 months into the PIP reassessment obviously aware there is a backlog so keep getting messages telling me this. My health has been deteriorating, I’m already on high rates for both PIP parts, but I’m 99.9% certain I am about to be diagnosed with cancer, just going through final tests, and this comes as no…

Hi, my mum is 80 and is having trouble using her bathroom even though she has a shower and not a bath. My dad has asked me to inquire for her whether they would get help with fitting a safer wet room? They own their own bungalow and are not on any benefits.
