Reasons to be Cheerful
Hi ,I have been listening to the radio this morning while baking and to be honest its seems to be nothing but doom and gloom and despondency around at the moment I know times are tough and people are struggling, but at coffee morning yesterday we were all saying how people seem to have lost being cheerful. I have been…

Morals question with regard to own expenditure on someone under my LPA
My sister and I share LPA for Health & Welfare and also for finance for our mother. Because I live the nearest, when we had to activate the LPA, (she has dementia and had started gifting £1,000 cheques to anybody and everybody) I took over Mum’s banking, so now handle her money for her. (I’ve managed to get her various…

Weekly Flylady Thread 7th February 2022
Welcome
to the weekly Flylady Thread. We
often see new flyers (gents welcome!) around this time of year so please don't
worry if you feel you cannot keep up. Similarly if your house has been
neglected it won't be turned around in a day - but if you stay you will get
into some good habits which do help! Happy flying. What…

Route up the Mountain not so clear. Dealing with the Crevasses
Does anyone else keep attempting a virtuous life of money saving, frugality and “getting a grip” only to have things disintegrate? If it was just left to me sitting comfortably having lots of ideas, and finding it easy to stick to my brilliant plans, I could sit here and pontificate on my wonderful journey to financial…

Cleaning a house that belonged to an habitual smoker
When I did my dad's house (20 years ago) it took me between 18 months and 2 years to clear the smell of smoke that had impregnated the walls and fabric of the house. I did this by leaving all the windows open when I was there (doors too when possible) using neutradol and plug ins that were to combat cigarette damage. Any…

O/S Daily, Sunday 6th February 2022
Good morning, dry at the moment here.Yesterday was a nasty cold blustery day with rain and sleet. I went to the shops and that was all, we were in for the rest of the day just pottering.I finished a card that worked out nicely, and tidied some drawers. I don't think that today is going to be very exciting either, no plans…

Old Style Daily Sunday 06 February 2022
Morning folks. It's been another wild and noisy night outside, nonstop battering winds and hammering rain. None of the threatened snow here yet. Because of the noise my sleep was rather patchy and yet here I am, wide awake when I don't want to be! My car alarm was activated by the wind overnight, luckily I keep my spare…

Childcare, Single-Income Family & Monitoring Cashflow
Hi all, Apologies I wasn't quite sure where to post this as it covers a range of topics (maybe it should be broken up into separate threads?).Anyway (as I'm sure many people are finding) it's tough with the cost of living rising all the time vs their pay not going up. We work on our accounts on a monthly basis using…

It worked! Almost free cooking
I was highly sceptical but purchased a wonder box. Stuffed it with polystyrene balls from an old beanbag and wadding from a pillow. Did a test last night with boiling water and it kept above 80 degrees at 6 hours. So cooked a gammon knuckle with split peas and veggies. Its absolutely scrumpy. Will experiment next with…

Frugal fuel tips
So we’ve probably seen the news about the hefty rise in fuel in April, and then probably again in October. I’m feeling pretty worried about the inevitable big bill, as I know many others are. Having just read here about ‘hay box cookers’,and also refilling the kettle after emptying to capture the warmth for the next boil,…

Corn Flour
I have some corn flour that has a use by/best before date of April 2022. I have quite a bit left and wondered if there are any recipes, other than custard and pavlova as I make them already, that I can use it for. I have read that it can last beyond the use by date for about another 6-8 months but I don't think that would…
