Food Waste Audit Diary May 2019
Hi everyone! I'm doing a tight audit of food waste for May 2019. I don't waste much, but there's always room for improvement with all these skills. I welcome any advice, or anybody who wants to do it along with me. A little background... I've been doing quite a bit of reading about this. It's obviously difficult for anyone…

Swimming lengths: how many have I done now?
Posting a little idea I thought of the other day in case it saves someone else money. I recently started going swimming again and aim at 40 lengths per session. Often I would get halfway through and lose count of how many I had done so far today. I looked online for help but only found expensive electronic swim watches and…

Weekly Flylady Thread 29th April 2019
Welcome to the Weekly Flylady Thread What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole…

Cheap meal ideas
I generally buy Lidl/Aldi cheapo ingredients, apart from what little meat I get, which comes mostly from the local butcher (which I am not going to compromise on). However I could do with making more savings, so I’m looking for any recipes that are cheap and tasty. For lunch I have decided that I will be swapping from the…

Freezer Bags?
Hi Everyone Hope you are well. I'm after some advice on freezer bags as we've decided to try batch cook so we hopefully will find it easier to stay 'on plan' but also to try and save money by being organised. We bought some 1ltr soup bags but they aren't big enough for storing food for 3 people. So I have 2 questions: What…

Barley straw for pond?
I've got a small garden fish pond - about 1m*2m, with 5 goldfish. It has got a bit murky in the hot weather, with a fair bit of slimy weed growing and a little white foam. I've pulled out a load of weed, and I've heard barley straw suggested as an old style remedy for excess weed/slime. Would I just float one of these in…

Ways to use up your Easter Egg glut?
I eggspect I'm not the only parent out there this week who's house has been invaded by the Easter Bunny this last weekend - and even my sweet toothed little egg eating monster has a limit (partly enforced and partly down to physical ability to scoff down a huge quantity of chocolate). So - whilst there will be Brownies…

washing machine smells after I tried to clean it
My washing machine was fine but I hadn't done a clean in a while so I did a 90 deg wash with just soda crystals. Now the drum really stinks and the clothes have started to smell if I don't take them out straight away. What have I done and what can I do to correct it? It was fine before I cleaned it!

Easter egg mystery
Can't think where else to ask in the hope that somebody actually knows the answer, so ... What happens to all the unsold Easter eggs that have disappeared from the supermarket shelves by the time they open on Easter Monday?
