Weekly Flylady Thread 22nd April 2019
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Reducing food spending when can't cook (because ill and/or no skills)
I have realised I spend far too much money on food. Some of that is because I treat myself to things I enjoy and I'm ok with spending on that sort of thing, but the majority of my spending is because I don't know how to cook and struggle with motivation and energy due to health problems. I mainly eat pasta, instant noodles…

Cash Envelope System
Does anyone use the envelope system for budgeting? I have started using my debit card for most things, even cups of coffee, and I find that I have lost track of where my money goes. I do look on my bank statement but its not the same as using cash. I used to just draw out cash for the month after being paid and leave money…

Vogue 8280 Pattern - Sewing Bee Wiggle Dress
Hi Not sure if this is the right place to post as couldn't find a sewing thread (:rotfl:) I have been looking for a copy of the Vogue 8280 sewing pattern, similar to the one used to make the wiggle dress in the Great British Sewing Bee. Can't find anything online, just wondered if anyone had one they were looking to sell…

Soap nuts query
Hi everyone I have just started using soap nuts and have done a couple of washes. I followed the instructions for hard water but find that they don't froth up hardly at all. Are they supposed to? Should I put more nuts in the wash? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Storing cooking oil when not in use
I have a fryer and can go months and months without using it then a few times in a short period then months again. I stupidly left old oil in that I haven't used since Christmas and filtered it into a container, then scrubbed out fryer and reused it and now have food poisoning! Learnt my lesson because of that. I hear…

Family organiser / meal planning app recommendations
Hi, I'm going back to work soon after maternity leave and looking for an iphone app for me and my partner to help with organising household info, ideally it would enable us to share a calendar for meal planning and activities, shopping lists, to do lists etc... There seem to be a few free 'to-do' apps out there, anyone…

Cheese cake question!
Have some friends staying on thursday night. The woman has a sweet tooth and loves a baked cheese cake with a raspberry coulee. Have found a decent recipe BUT it requires an 18cm springform cake tin. The smallest I have is 20cm. Would have gone and bought one but the brand I use don’t do them and don’t want a odd tin that…

Old style dream life vs real life
Been a bit introspective lately and realising that I drift along. So I decided to figure out what my ideal life was (aiming to be practical not requiring a lottery win!) and my ideal is so far from my reality. Currently I : live in a city have limited craft skills very limited funds violent job tiny garden clutter The…
