O/S Daily Friday 26th April 2019

This is is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning all

Good to see you Hester, pleased to hear CHS continues to improve.

Deleted_User sorry to hear about your neighbour.

Nothing has changed here. We are visiting mother every day. The care staff say usually it is a slow decline but mother is fighting. Two thing she likes are her bed and being fussed over, she has both.
Before going into care she was in hospital, on discharge they said she probably only had about 8 weeks left, that was 4 years ago, she definitely is a fighter.

Nothing much planned after our visit, I'm feeling tired.

Thought are with all those finding life difficult

    Morning everyone

SO - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Bright start to the day with the sun rising, but air feels cool. Rain forecast for later, forecast yesterday was for rain which we did get in the morning but heavy for a very short time then stopped and sky just kept going black/grey but no further rain, then cleared and was bright and quite blustery - so managed to get a line of washing dry that didn't get pegged out until 4pm.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and porridge whilst on here.

Dinner last night pork loins, mash, carrots, peas and gravy, tonight will be something easy probably breaded chicken portions, chips and beans for the menfolk, mushroom omelette and salad for me.

Yesterday I seemed to run around all day and not achieve that much, but then did get several pc/admin/jobs done once I got home after having my nail appointment. Today I have a dentist appointment quite early, so I'll be heading off to get that done, then I need to do some food shopping for DS1 for whilst we're away next week.

We've got up this morning and had no hot water, I couldn't make the valves open to re-fill as the error message said low water pressure so you just need to re-fill - DS1 managed to open the valve, so boiler re-filled and we now have a working boiler and hot water, good job son! (And he managed to do it before he left for work this morning, saves me trying to get the heating engineer out).

I do need to also do some housework, washing, drying and ironing, so plenty to be going on with. I'm working tomorrow too.

    Keep safe and well x

Sorry to hear of your neighbour Csarina, very sad.
What a day for you Gers, look after yourself.

It's been raining overnight, much needed for the garden, hope it doesn't forget to stop now!

Back to work today, I can feel myself falling into a life of nothingness! Daytime TV is ok when you're poorly but as soon you feel better it's all quite boring. I finish a bit earlier on a Friday so it'll go in quickly I hope, there'll be so much to catch up on.

Hope you all have a good Friday, take care. XX

Nice here at the moment but rain due later we have not had a lot of the rain they said we would get, but my Aunt in the USA has had a lot of rain and we usually get what they have a week later:( lets hope it skips us this time !

Might do bacon egg and chips tonight so nice and easy the fridge is looking very bare indeed so a shop is badly needed this weekend.

My Friday tidier will be here today :j so only washing to do tonight once we get in, good job really as Fridays are exhausting at work with three really needy clients.

    Morning all.

Very dull here, I think there's rain coming.

    Glad you're feeling better Camelot.

SO - I hope you can get some rest. All the daily visiting plus other life is a real strain.

This morning I'm going for physio and hoping for some exercises to ease them painful hip flexor ( if that's the problem). I hope to visit DM in her new hospital and then back here to wait for my new chair.

I've got a work related call to make first thing so need to organise my thoughts first!

I hope everyone has a good day, thoughts are with those who are struggling. Happy Friday.

Morning all! I am up and almost awake! woop! radio and nurse today with a side order of take a stroll around the block as many people seem tohave had a bank holiday clear out and I can see htings I could use in the garden, so a spot of wombling is in order. Have plans in my head for a raised brick bed three quarters of the way along the garden with eventually a pergola with some vines growing over it planted in that bed to make a nice seating area. The log bits will be set into the ground to set them straight for little tables or seats. Who can tell I've been watching watching garden !!!!!!? [Monty Dons Italian Gardens....and Love your Garden...]
It also appears I have reached new levels of snore-iness, so will have to try and find something to stop me sucking the curtains off the windows Have asked a friend for advice...
Csarina, how awful for you and them...Nelski, takea bigger magazine next time, or your work laptop :) TA, hope your hip isn't too bad today..Gers, good luck with the chair. AOD, nice to see you. Hester, good news! SO, does she like listening to music? Some of the music from her youth might perk her up. I know I'll forever remember the music of the eighties whether I liked it or not at the time...Hey Holly, hope your skin is calming down, mine is starting it's ramp up and I'm not looking forward to what you described....not at all....

    Wotcha MIA's
    Frenetic Friday!
Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...

Good morning all. It's sunny here at the mo, but there has been heavy rain. It was so dark at about 4pm yesterday I had to put the kitchen light on. There were hailstones as well.

TA, I hope you find the Window Vac effective, I'll feel guilty if you don't like it!! I should be on commission from K*rcher.

Sounds as if you had a bit of a day yesterday Gers, hope things calm down a bit for you.

    Camelot, hope you're feeling better.

Good to hear from you Hester.

Csarina, sorry about your neighbour, - what an awful shock for his wife.

Not much happened yesterday, I went to cardmaking, and made a nasty little card - I made a mistake at the outset through not listening properly, and it didn't turn out well.
My great niece's wedding card is nearly done, I 've changed things and hesitated, changed things again, but I think it'll be ok.

Just the usual housework etc today, and a couple of friends coming round tonight.

Taff your burns sound painful, hope you'll be ok.

Nanny, I think I'll get the glitter glue out again, I'd forgotten about it.

Thinking of the sad and poorly people, and their carers.

    Take care folks xx
  • Morning,

My meeting in the city centre was pretty much a waste of my time which is frustrating because my day was centred around it and it cost money. Anyway, if you don't shoot, you don't score, as my old coach used to tell me. Because of my change of plans, I parked in a new place and came back to a parking ticket as my back wheels were on a double yellow. No complaints, I didn't even notice them so I'll need to suck it up. I came home and had a 2 hour call with my gran before going to football training at night. I had a dream I was a kid and getting shot repeatedly off my Dad. Weird.

A restless night not helped my dreams meant I was tired when I got up this morning. My hairdryer exploded on me and then I realised I've lost my favourite travel mug, so not the best of starts. I've not much planned this weekend, thankfully, so I'll keeping spends to an absolute minimum outside of the above.

csarina - Such sad news and what a shock for everyone involved. Will she be ok on her own?
S-O - I know it's exhausting but it's good that you're always there for her. Taff's suggestion of a radio is a good idea
Taff - You made me laugh out loud. Never heard that saying before and I'm defo guilty of it!

    Morning :)

Looking ominous out there... going to be another wet day. Got up early this morning to get to Asda before anyone wakes up. I love shopping at that time (7ish) as I can be in and out at top speed particularly with the new toys the auto scanners. You do have to circumnavigate all the huddles of staff in each aisle blocking them with huge cages whilst they have a good old gossip....you'll never guess ...she was sacked without a bye or leave....no!!! ...yes ....mind you I never liked her :D I now no all the Asda gossip. Anyway shop done including a large bottle of white vinegar to attack the ivy in the back garden. Its driving me nuts and wrecking the fence so according to t'internet this should work ....gotta love white vinegar

Back to my hated job this morning. My target today is 2 modules which will leave 3 for the weekend :( Hate weekend working but I want to see the back of this now.

Working in my other role tonight so lets just say I will be very glad to wave goodbye to Friday.

Food no idea atm but will probably just pick as and when

Have a great day all if you can

Another wet day ahead, although at the moment it's a drizzle and not the stair rods of yesterday :(.
I shall be pottering about today, doing some small jobs around the house that are always pushed to the back of the queue. I also need to clean the top of the cooker and fill the DW.
Mr Fix It has decided to not only change the castors on my sewing table but to give it a sand down and another coat of varnish while he's at it. Keeps him occupied anyway and from under my feet :rotfl:.
This afternoon DD has another appointment at the hospital, so I shall go and keep her company while she waits. I hope we get the same waiting room as last time, because I had it all to myself and the big flat screen TV. I managed to watch a whole episode of escape to the country and I was spoilt rotten as to the choice of seats :rotfl:.

Hester happy to see you back posting.
Csarina sorry to hear about your neighbour, that's so sad.
SilverOldie and Gers I hope you both manage to have a reasonable day today.

Hugs and healing vibes winging their way to all the poorly people, the carers, the poorly animals and anyone struggling with daily life. (I think that's covered nearly all of us unfortunately.)
    Take care all
    nan xx
