O/S Daily Wednesday 24th April 2019

This is is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly, and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy, overcast and much cooler than of late, we're forecast rain and some thunder and lightening - we'll see, we could do with the rain.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm enjoying first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans for the menfolk, I had baked fish and vegetables. I remembered to get the chicken thighs out to defrost so we'll be having those - not sure what I will cook to go with them, maybe pasta in a sauce.

Yesterday was rather manic for most of the morning, then was quite steady, not sure how today will be, possibly similar. Today is my last full work day, then training tomorrow, work Saturday morning, then off for a week. I'm fairly sure when we're away next week the weather won't be like the last week, we won't be that lucky!

Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.

It's a bit grey here, and noticeably cooler, I think rain is forecast. We don't seem to have had any rain for a while.

Yesterday went as planned, we had Dgs from late morning till about 5.15. He was a bit unsettled because he's cutting a tooth DD thinks, so he wasn't quite his usual cheerful self.. He was really pleased to see his Mum when she arrived.

We went to our Tuesday quiz last night, had a pretty good night and caught up with some friends who've been away on holiday.

This morning I'm visiting a friend nearby - I normally go on Mondays, but she was visiting her family on Monday, so asked me to go today, then it'll be straight home to do the usual jobs.

Dgd is coming after school till about 6.30. It'll be a card and picture making fest, she loves that. Unfortunately she's heavy handed with the glitter if you don't restrain her, it's the work of the devil, that stuff.

That's it really folks, nothing exciting to report.

Thoughts to the sad and poorly, and those struggling with life.

    Take care folks xx

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. We are still clinging on to some sun this morning but rain is forecast for early afternoon.

When I got home last Friday after my 5 days at the 'van there was an AgeUK bag through the door, saying they would collect on Wednesday. But I don't know if that means today or last Wednesday when I was away! I have a big bag of stuff and am undecided whether to put it out or not! As yet I don't see any more bags out but I will keep a lookout!

I am dithering over taking the bus to Ilkley today for the nearest M & S Food. I shall be doing an Aldi shop tomorrow with DD but I like to treat myself to some nice bits from M & S now and again. Plus I find their salad stuff keeps fresher for much longer. A bit more expensive but worth it.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. SO is there any change with your DM? Take care all xx

Morning all! Up stupid early for some reason, have a long day ahead, going early to appointment because the other person in the transport has an earlier appointment, will have to have a chat at the desk to make sure none of my transport has mysteriously been cancelled too.
Will be up late tonight, we're going to watch Endgame at twelve am, so I need a good nap when I get home.
Spent a couple of hours at the hospital yesterday which means I have several things to do today before I get picked up so I suppose at least I'm up early enough to do them. Post office, doctors, council are all going to be visited. I'll be pooped before I go. Luckily there are a couple of couches to nap on in the waiting room, or I could go to the Maggies center for a coffee or two.
Hope everyone has a good day today, SO and Gers, hope they're both as comfortable as possible. Nelski, hope yeaterday wasn't too bad.

    Wotcha MIA's.
    Wholesome Wednesday!
Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...

It's still dry outside but not as warm as it has been. Didn't think I would say this but we desperately need rain!

I'm off work at the moment, woke up yesterday morning at 4 to be sick, turned into a proper D&V bug so feeling a little sorry for myself.

Nothing much to tell you, I'll have another day boring myself with daytime TV!

    Take care. XX

Good morning chums, and <<hugs>> to those who are feeling a bit bleugh or are just poorly or sad.

Just listened to the news on TV and what a sad world we are living in at the moment ,those poor folk in Sri Lanka, what harm have those children done to anyone. There are indeed some wicked folk around.

Well as a true Brit :) I will start with complaining the weather :) its not as warm as it was and although dry its quite a bit overcast, and rain is expected at some point, although I daresay it will help the gardeners amongst us.

Yesterday was a nice day though, and after I dropped DGS Jack off at his job I popped into Dobbies on the way home for a coffee with my U3A friends. met up with my pal Chris and after a bit of a natter I offered her a seat and a place on my trip to Bath She is a retired teacher and her hobby is archeology and history and she is also in my quiz team at the pub and she is a very nice person and we do enjoy a good giggle as well So I now have a pal on my trip to Bath. She has visited before a few years ago and jumped at the chance to go again :)
My eldest DD is pleased as well as she does tend to fuss when I am off gadding about on my travels .Bless her she means well but does worry, as I tell her I have been on this planet for well over 70 plus years and am quite capable of looking after myself But she is a worrier nonetheless. So at least she is happier knowing Chris is with me ,even though Chris is only about 5 years younger than I am :)But if it keeps her happy and it will be nice to have a companion:)

DD has also sorted out a summer job for DGS Henry as he leaves school in June after his A level exams and will be at a loose end until he starts at Essex Uni in September, so he is a happy bunny as well.

Today I am visiting a friend of mine who is housebound and will be taking her a bag of paperbacks from my bookshelf that I have read.Plus I made a victoria sponge cake so coffee and cake will be taken today :)
just have to drop DGS jack off to work this morning as well.

Hope everyone has a good day and the weather stay dry if you have washing out.

    Cheers chums

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off nmlc

Thank you for asking TA, no change, they try and give DM fortisip type drink and water every hour, some times she has about 5ml other times she puts her tongue so they can't feed her, strong / determined who knows, she's never been easy. I do think she is still aware.
We go every morning and I sit with her, I talk rubbish. I feel so bad when I leave, but I know I can't do 24/7 on my own.
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.
  • Good morning,

Last night was what is becoming 'the usual'; staying late in work, going to the gym then home to bed. Not that I mind. Far from it.

Slightly later than usual check in from me as I opted for a longer lie and then had some sourdough toast and peanut butter. Yoga at lunch today then I'll visit the gym post-work too.

The most exciting thing in my life at the moment is my contemplation of switching banks. Of course I'm using here as my source of knowledge but I can't decide if I want a switching bonus, a packaged account or an app based bank. I'd ideally like a blend of all three!!

Yesterday was NSD #10, too, with today looking like it'll be number 11.

Oh, and thanks for all the well wishes. I agree Ruby, when I know, I'll know.
Jackie - Enjoy your cake. I'm very jealous.
SO - I'm sure we can all relate to feeling of guilt as we leave but as you say, you can't be there every minute, as much as you'd like to. Look after yourself.

    Morning :)

Cloudy here as predicted but to be fair its still warm so no jumpers yet.

taff that sounds like another stuffed full day hope the transport works out ok for you
jackie you will have a great time in Bath I bet ...all those lovely bars and restaurants to investigate :)
SO You have nothing to feel guilty about visiting every day is as much as anyone can expect ...I just hope you are are being kind to yourself and Mr SO as well. Sending a huge hug

Yesterday was OK I have had to start going earlier now as mum is taking an hour and a half doing her shop. Goodness knows how she takes so long buying exactly the same things every week. Maybe she has a nap by the bakery. I could do it for her but she is perfectly capable and needs to have some part of it.

I have picked up a couple of days work now although it will probably take me 3 and paid for 2. Its the kind of work I hate ...workbook writing but I wont complain as its work and the diary is very empty looking right now. It does mean work from home so I can break it up with a bit of other stuff

Went for an Italian yesterday and brought half a pizza back shoved it in the freezer for another day. Getting back into the habit of putting things into the freezer rather than emptying it this week which I dont want so pizza was the last thing and I'm back on the case now. Sausage mash and beans tonight so life is good :)

Hope you all have a lovely day if possible

    Morning everyone

I’m planning on having a quiet day at home doing a bit of housework and dozing.

My brother picked me up on Sunday and took me out for lunch, other than that I didn’t do anything over the bank holiday weekend, but I did enjoy the weather though.

It was nice to see him because I hadn’t seen or heard from him since the middle of February.

I was thinking this morning that I need to try and get out at some point this week because I haven’t been out since then. Unfortunately, I’m feeling a bit down at the moment so am lacking the motivation to do anything or go out.

Camelot I hope that you are soon feeling better.

Taff hopefully you won’t be at the hospital too long and that they haven’t cancelled your transport this time. Enjoy yourself tonight.

Silver-Oldie I was sorry to read about your mum. Don’t beat yourself up about not being able to spend as much time at the care home as you would like. You are doing all you can, no one can expect any more of you. Take care of yourself as well.

JackieO a trip to Bath sounds lovely.

Specky there will be other girls for you, and I’m sure that you will eventually find the right one.

    Have a good day everyone.
