How to make your own spray oil for cooking?
OK the title says it all really. How would one go about making a spray oil for cooking, rather than pay the vastly increased prices in the supermarkets for what seems like a very basic product? I have seen several Youtube videos that recommend 'mixing' the oil with one parts water and 2 parts oil etc. But anyone with even…

What can I do with grapes?
I have a grapevine in my garden and it has lots of smallish but sweet grapes with pips. There are too many to eat and I don't want to make wine with them because we did it once and it wasn't any good (wrong grapes apparently) so has anyone ever dried them, so I can use them in my baking. I am thinking it might be a bit of…

Weekly Flylady Thread 10th September 2018
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Edible indoor plants
Hello all, Apologies for the slightly odd question, but I’ve noticed that the weather is beginning to change, and I’m starting to make a few plans for the winter. I always get a bit down during the winter months, and this year I’ve decided to try to have a bit of greenery about the house to make things a bit more cheerful.…

What do you stir your food with when cooking?
Was cooking alongside someone earlier. Noticed we used totally different utensils to stir the mince and onions in the frying pan. Just wondering out of curiosity what other people would use to stir stuff in a frying pan or wok and why?Plastic/metal/wood or what? Or do you use different for different foods?

Veg box delivery
Has anyone signed up for this sort of thing? Any tips/experiences? Perhaps not the most MSE, but I'm thinking it'll help me avoid impulse buys in the supermarket and eat more veg. I can get milk delivered as well so I should only need to go to the big supermarket once a month then. Just a bit concerned I'm going to end up…

Buying flavourings used by commercial snack manufacturers
I was munching my way through a packet of smoked paprika crisps and decided its addiction to some of the flavourings which tempt many of us (including me) to pay inflated prices for these snack type products on which we tend to forget we're paying VAT which makes them even poorer value for money. Does anybody know where we…

Old style MSE treat for £3
Overthe last 24 hours, I have made 3 separate purchases and justified each as a treat to myself. Normally I would do this perhaps a couple of times a week at most, and they would be unplanned purchases from a chazzer / perhaps Poundland. A single purchase of £1 would normally bring me as much happiness as one of £3. Treat…

clothes too scratchy - help
My son hates wearing his school shirts as they are too stiff and scratchy. Does anyone know how I can make them softer? I have washed using fabric conditioner and vinegar but it didn't make a difference. Unfortunately I don't have a tumble dryer. Any tried and tested methods? google recommends to soak in salt water for…

Heavy bottom fudge pan
Hello, I'm after a heavy bottomed pan but 'heavy' seems quite subjective! I've tried Lakeland, John Lewis and Steamer trading but I can't get a definitive answer as to what would be the best pan. Can anyone here help? Thanks :)
