Old Style Daily Thursday 6th September 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Morning everyone

I really wish that I could sort out this sleep problem. I was so pleased to get another couple of hours yesterday, and then today I’m awake and up even earlier. I think that worrying is getting the better of me right now :(.

I went shopping in a local town yesterday for a change and managed to pick up a couple of birthday presents I needed to get for this week, so something useful came out of the trip.

Today I am going to have a quick dust and vacuum through and then I am meeting a friend for coffee. This afternoon my niece is coming over. I’m looking forward to that, I really enjoy her company.

I have a craving for fish and chips so have got some cod out of the freezer and there are some oven chips lurking at the bottom of the freezer so along with the obligatory mushy peas that will be dinner tonight :).

I hope the TAs are ok.

Thinking of all of you who are unwell or caring for someone who is unwell and those who have worries at the moment.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning All

Hope you've managed to get back to sleep Holly.
    Thinking of you TA.

The chaps have started the roughcasting, there's some sort of plaster stuff all over the back and hoping it's finished today. The windows and back door have been sealed off with plastic but I had to take the door seal off so I could get in!

I had a meeting to go to yesterday afternoon which meant an early finish so got a few jobs done including some shopping, a visit to the bank to pay the workmen and took my new spare wheel to be checked, luckily the guys checked to see if it fitted OK and it doesn't. Good job I checked so will have to contact the seller to see if they can change it.

The rain has cleared away so looking forward to a dry day here.

    Take care. XX

    Morning all :)

Sure enough yesterday was a very long day and by the time I got home I pretty much dumped my bag and headed up to bed. Today is a course in Stockport but with the road works on the M62 I need to leave at daft o'clock again or sit and panic in a jam. I say a course its another one to one which can either be really good or the longest day ever depending on the attitude of the delegate. Its an assertiveness and stress management programme so lets see how my stress levels are doing at the end :D

Lunch today will be tuna mayo rolls with a soreen bar didn't manage dinner last night but hopefully Ill be back soon enough to have chicken kiev and chips which I have a craving for at the moment.

Hope everyone is OK its very quiet on here these days.
    TA thinking about you

    Have a good day
  • Morning everyone and thank you for the thread Hollyharvey.

Nelski I thought of you while out and about yesterday, don't know which bit of Birmingham you were in but I was in the city centre.

Shopping yesterday was successful, I have a cute outfit for friend's daughter and a beautiful scented candle for my friend - the sort that I'd covet but not buy for myself.

When I came back, OH had a surprise for me, a replacement phone. It is a sams*ng and like a smaller version of this tablet so pretty easy to operate - I had real trouble with the temporary one on loan from the phone provider. This one, he's bought from Evilbay and just used my sim, plus some additional memory and we'll carry on with the original contract for now but may change. I'm very grateful, he knew that I was bothered about going away for a weekend with a phone that was completely counter-intuitive to use.

When did we last hear from TA? I am hoping that things are progressing and that she is simply too busy to post.

Today I need to make sure I'm ready for the weekend, which won't take long as I tend to travel very light Especially as OH and DS are going to be the other side of tge city at the time I need to leave so I'll have to get myself to the bus and then the train. . Any tidying will doubtless be untidiness by Sunday night so although I will do it, it will be a minor tidy.

Hope that everyone has as good a day as possible, with positive thoughts to those who are poorly or worried.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Thinking of those with poorly friends/family, especially TA's, feel really concerned we haven't heard from Mrs TA for a while as many of us are x

Cloudy and overcast this morning, hoping it's not going to rain, as want to get the washing line dried.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now going to work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was fish, mash, mushy peas for the menfolk, I had baked fish, mash, mixed veg. Tonight will be sausages and mash, veg and gravy. DH still not right but better than he was.

I have the normal "to do" list so will be heading to town first thing to visit the building society and the bank, need to go to the cheap chemist then home to crack on. I need to visit mum at some point as it's her birthday today.

I'll just get as much done as possible.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks. A brief update from me as I have been AWOL for a good few days. Life hasn't been good and I have not felt up to posting.

We saw the Oncologist as a follow up to the scan result appointment we had 3 weeks ago when she said the cancer had suddenly spread all over. Obviously nothing has changed for the better and Mr TA asked how long he had got. If you don't ask they don't tell you as some people would rather not know. Her reply was a few short months. I was devastated. He has lived with the cancer and it's up and downs for five years without much change so the decline in his health this summer was totally unexpected.

DS and DD were devastated when we told them and have been popping in at some point every day since the appointment. I can't imagine coping without their support. Of course my DB and SIL and Mr TA's own siblings are wanting to visit too and all he wants to do is sleep and can't be bothered chatting away to them. The consultant prescribed a short course of steroids as she said they may help with the tiredness and help him eat a bit more. But he doesn't want to take them because of all the side effects. DD works with the elderly and she said lots of her old people take them without ill effect so he is thinking about it.

I am coping with the bag changes of the catheter like an old pro now but, after the bed flood the second night home, I am not getting complacent and check, double and triple check them every time. Today we have someone coming from the Marie Curie hospice and I am told their nurses are brilliant. DS wants to be here for the first visit and works out nicely as he is on a late shift. DD is working unfortunately.

The DGDs are coming for tea after their Thursday swimming clubs so, of course, it has to be a Bolognese Pasta Bake! The sleepovers and school runs have had to stop obviously. DD's lovely bf now takes the 2 younger ones to school when DD is working an early shift.

I was told a lot of you had been worrying about my absence. You are all so kind, especially when lots of you have worries of your own. I will post as and when but don't worry if I disappear now and then, I just don;t feel very sociable at times. Mr TA doesn't get up very soon these days so it gives me time to have a couple of coffees and breakfast, then getting organised before facing what the day brings.

((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them and take care xx

Looks like its going to be another nice day here Im loving these late sunny days.

The workmen came and reinstated the pipe for my wm so OH has nabbed the machine and put a load on he was down to his last pair of pants  I will stick a load in tonight, and hopefully at the weekend we can put the washing line back up.

Scampi chips and peas for dinner tonight as we had the curry last night.

Right I had better dash as running late.

Hope the TA's are ok xx

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for posting TA. It's a tough time and we can only only give virtual hugs and support. The most important support is from your fabulous family and the nurses. You have to do what you can when you can...we'll all still be here and happy to see you when you're able.

My drive down yesterday was uneventful :j apart from a stop off at M&S to pick up an order and some food for DM. I've bought what's been touted as the most comfortable bra ever, I haven't tried it yet so this jury is out.

This morning the physio is coming as is the GP. DM is much less breathless now so the low dosage diuretic is doing a good job. She's doing more around the house for herself and staying up late again. Fingers crossed folks.

Now I'm shaking good vibes over everyonevin this thread. Hope you all have the best day you can, happy Thursday.

    Good morning everyone :hello:
Just popping on to say how sorry I am to hear TA's devastating news. I wish I could say something to help but there are no words. Don't worry about popping on as I am sure you want to spend as much time as possible with your beloved. I hope Marie Curie will be a great help to you all. Sending you the biggest hug you can imagine xxxxx
