Vegetarian meal ideas?
I'm looking for meal ideas, so breakfast lunch, dinner and snacks that don't cost more than £15-£20 a week. :p :A I should mention I hate eggs unless cooked in a veggie burger, etc. I can't eat them on their own. Thank you for your help!

Thickening sauce in the slow cooker
I would love to use my slow cooker more, but find the sauce in casseroles etc is always really runny. I have read about adding cornflour towards the end of the cooking time, or taking off the lid towards the end, but I want to be able to walk in the door and eat straight away. I tried coating the chicken I was using in…

Is mean queen still here?
I remembered reading mean queens blog a while ago and she knew a very interesting lady in her village called Joanna Francis who lived a wartime life in a house equipped like 1939. Mean queen had lots of photos and I would have loved to have met and chatted with Joanna. I was just googling her again and saw that she is…

Weekly Flylady Thread 17th September 2018
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Offsetting
Firstly let me say I am retired, so have the time to indulge in offsetting, but so do lots of other retirees who complain of being hard up. As a married couple we live well on less than the published comfortable retired couples income. There is very little we go without, and we have driven our annual living costs down each…

Roasting bags - how to stop the mess on the baking trayI
I've started using roasting bags for my chicken breasts and I love how moist it makes the chicken, far better than just putting in straight on the baking tray (comes out dry). The problem is that the bags make a mess of my baking tray, stick to it and I can't get it off. Tonight I used a Pyrex dish instead and its done the…

Wood fire and wood ash
First part - Just after any ideas of how to use up the wood ash. Last year I put it on the front garden and in the compost. It hasn't affected the plants except for the sunflowers which I planted this year [ they're shorter but lots more flower heads] or the compost significantly. I also have a builders bag of the tree…

Washing machine cleaning
I have always dried the inside of my washing machine and the detergent dispenser after use. But despite this there is black in the door seal and when I opened the debris filter there was a greyish/black deposit on the inside of the pipe I could see. I only ever use 40 degree wash and a non biological powder. What is the…
