This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
Sorry long post warning.
Another one here who posts what I’m sure is just boring mundane things to everyone else. You have all spent the summer reading about my numerous day trips to the coast, walks in the park and people watching. All pretty repetitive mundane things.
I don’t think anyone else’s posts are boring though, and really like reading everyone’s posts. Life is very up and down for everyone and I look forward to reading what everyone is up to each day whatever that is.
I have read back over the last couple of threads, and thank you everyone who sent me good wishes, unfortunately things are not good for me right now.
I initially went to stay with my brother so that he could come to a couple of appointments with me. Because of the outcome of those appointments I stayed with them until yesterday evening rather than be on my own.
Following routine breast screening in August some abnormalities were found on the mammograms. I was called back and had further tests and some biopsies at the end of August. I got the results of those biopsies just under three weeks ago, and they confirmed that I have fairly advanced breast cancer in one area which may already be invasive. They also found a further very small area that they thought was too small to biopsy but may be malignant. They offered me a mastectomy and removal of the lymph nodes and the usual chemotherapy and possibly radiotherapy.
I don’t want a mastectomy so the only alternative is a lumpectomy. The surgeon said that this may be possible if the other area was benign. Because of this they agreed to try and biopsy the other area, even though they thought that they may not be able to get a good enough sample for the lab. They did manage to get a good sample and I got the result of that last week. This area is very small and the cell changes are at an early stage. In view of this the surgeon had taken my case to a team meeting and they agreed that it would be possible to remove the two areas and the lymph nodes then decide on further treatment from there, depending on whether or not it has spread to the lymph nodes.
An admission date for the surgery should be arranged by the end of the week, and I think it is going to be fairly soon.
It has been a really difficult year for me. This diagnosis came out of the blue, I had absolutely no idea and no reason to suspect that there was a problem. I will be honest and say that I’m at rock bottom at the moment, and obviously don’t know what the future holds, but being on my own I am finding it very scary right now.
The reason I didn’t mention anything before was that I didn’t want to post until I was sure about what I am dealing with. I felt that posting before each appointment would just be like looking for sympathy when there are so many people on the thread with health problems right now.
I have had a lot of support from a couple of regulars on the thread who I know in RL from posting on here, a good example of how well this thread works.
TA I hope that you are ok, I have been thinking about you.
I know that there are also other people on the thread who are poorly, and some caring for people who are and I've been thinking of you all as well as those with troubles and worries.
I hope that you all have as good day as possible whatever you are up to today.0 -
Good morning everyone and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.
I am so sorry to read your news, I had been thinking about you but didn't know that this particular horrid thing was happening. I wish that there was more that I could do to support you but I know that we will all be here, to listen and to offer virtual support.
Thinking of you and of those who are also unwell or worried.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -

Morning All
So sorry to hear of your diagnosis Holly, you're one brave lady and can get through this, stay positive.
Yesterday's rain and wind moved away and I had an hour or so in the garden tidying up and I put some sleepers in, need to get some extra long screws to stack them up. Also sorted winter/summer clothes and the wardrobe looks a bit bare! At least the winter clothes don't need to be ironed like summer t shirts and tops.
Swimming and work today, will spend some more time in the garden if the weather is OK when I get home.
LW - you seem to have a routine with the medication.
You're in my thoughts TA.
Missing you tru.
Hope you have a happy Monday, take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and dear HOLLY I was devastated to read your news. You have been so brave posting to let us all know what has happened. All I can offer are virtual ((HUGS)) and my hopes that the treatment goes well for you. xx
I have been MIA myself for a few days but my life isn't my own these days. I was up at 4.00 with Mr TA who was in a lot of discomfort/pain. I finally got him settled and he is now peacefully asleep. I am not so I am sitting in one of the DGD's beds drinking coffee and reading back on what I have missed.
Life has been up and down and Mr TA is far from well. The specialist hospice nurse has been wonderful. Either calling or ringing every day offering what support she can. In her absence there is always someone else I can speak to if I need to. It's the emotional side I am finding draining and difficult to cope with and I can't switch off. All the extra work I can handle.
We had a traumatic event over the w/e. Mr TA had had blood tests Friday pm and at 2.10 am Saturday MORNING the phone beside the bed rang. Someone from the Out of Hours Doctors based at the hospital saying there was cause for concern over the results and he was sending a doctor out. Being middle of the night I was in a panic and paced around till the Dr arrived. He said he thought Mr TA should be admitted in view of the results and rang for an ambulance. We finally got installed on the Assessment Unit about 6.00 and all admission forms filled in again, obs done, junior doctor poking and prodding. Then waited for the Consultant to do the rounds mid morning. By this time DD had joined us worried sick herself. The outcome was, in Consultants opinion, the abnormal results were caused by the steroids he had been re-started on mid week and he could go back home! She said the O of Hours GPs had probably panicked without reading up on his full history. I was not best pleased and Mr TA was exhausted by all this and spent the rest of the day asleep most of the time.
Well I have waffled long enough so time for another coffee and some roaming of the 'Net. Have a good day if you can and ((BIG HUGS)) to all in need or want of them. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Holly.
I'm so sorry to read your news. I have been thinking about you but had no idea this was happening. You are a strong brave lady, you can get through this. I wish I could do something for you. Sending hugs.If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off, sorry to hear your news, thinking of you x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light here, looks cloudy but it's too early really to tell, I will be putting a wash load out to dry one the line, and hopefully it'll dry.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he wants to go for a run before catching a lift to go to the gym.
Lunch yesterday was lovely roast chicken, roasties, mash, carrots, green beans, cauli/broc cheese, swede, peas, yorkshires and gravy. Tonight I'm not sure but maybe fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.
DH suggested going out for a walk yesterday afternoon, there's another village along from us and it's a fair walk but certainly do-able, there's pavements all the way, so we went out for a walk, it was quite warm and a very pleasant walk. The pub was open so we stopped there for a drink before walking back, was nice instead of just sitting at home, although we did visit the parents yesterday morning.
Back to work this morning, not sure what sort of day it will be, we can't tell from one day to the next - Saturday wasn't too busy at all, so we'll see. I prefer it to be busy - makes the day pass quicker.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning folks.
HH. - such shocking news to be given out of the blue! Your consultant sounds as if he's on the ball and listening to you about treatment. It's good that you were with your family all during this awful time. Hugs to you.
TA - you are bring put through a series of wringers just now. The only consolation can be that at least the medics are checking things, even if then over-reacting. Hugs to you both.
It's been a relatively quiet night though storm Helene is due soon. That means nearly a week of heavy rain.
I've got two teaching classes today, one which I enjoy and then the truculent teenagers again. In between the classes I have stuff to take to the tip. My cleaner is coming today so I have to do a quick tidy up before going out.
I hope everyone has a happy Monday (as far as possible).0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Holly, I was so sorry to read your news this morning, sending you a gentle hug. I hope that your treatment goes well and you find lots of support both in the real world and virtually too xx
TA, I am also sorry that you and Mr TA had such a rubbish weekend. I hope he manages to rest up and you find some respite from all your worries. Also sending you a gentle hug xx
I can't believe it is Monday again, the weeks are just flying by. Our weekend went so quickly and now Steve is back in work. The grandchildren came to see us and as predicted, our grand daughter was thrilled to bits with her new phone. Their mum is having a stressful time at home with lots of arguments with her husband, I was sad to see her looking so fed up. She may be in her 30's but she is still my baby and I just wish I could wave a magic wand and make all the pressures disappear.
Lee wants to cook tea tonight so we are having chicken and leek bake. I need to ask him to get the chicken out of the freezer fairly soon though or we will end up having beans on toast. Tomorrow will be a fun day as I have an activity planned doing some sugarcraft using fondant icing. This will be a new experience for the both of us so it will be a case of the blind leading the blind. We are both looking forward to it though. Today we are doing maths and english this morning and then this afternoon, Lee is going to design a comic strip using a short story he wrote in creative writing.
I have a load of washing to do again today, where does it all come from. I did 2 loads on Friday and it's only mine and Steve's clothes. Nevermind, I love the smell of the fabric conditioner as it reminds me of my mum's house when I was growing up. I also have to post off a load of birthday cards to my nieces in Wales as they all have birthdays within days of each other. I will put them in a big padded envelope as unfortunately, I have had quite a few cards and money go missing in the post. This way they have a sporting chance of getting to my sister.
Well, that is all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
:hello: Good Morning, Oldstylers -
Thank you Hollyharvey for starting the thread going for today. Very sad to hear your news - if you don't mind, I'll add you to my prayer list. ((((HEALING HUGS)))) being sent your way.
Mrs TA - what a lousy way for you and Mr TA to spend your w/end with so much disruption ................ but I suppose the doctor was acting in 'best interests as far as he was aware'. Well done on getting your head around all the medications :T. I was setting alarms on my phone to let me know when to take my combination of painkillers/antibiotics/BP meds - like you I found the biggest problem was working out which ones needed to be before/after/with food, or how long before/after ! Have you asked at the pharmacy about the possibility of being given Mr TA's meds in 'dosage trays'? Prayers and ((((HUGS)))) for you and your family.
nmlc - sounds like you and OH had a lovely Sunday. One of the joys of living in a rural environment - being able to walk to the next village :j.
Well done with the homeschooling, dumpling - sounds as though you and your son are really getting into the swing of things now :T. I wish we'd thought of something similar when DGD1 was going through problems with his schooling.
My own plans for today include needing to be at the hospital for 8am apt with my Knee Consultant for a wound checkup - will be so happy to see the end of all these appointments. As that's in the same direction as my DD's home, I may just get back on the bus and go to see her for the rest of the day - it'll be quite a change to spend time with her without DGK's around!
Wishing everybody a good 'moneysaving day' and sending ((((HUGS)))) for all who need them xx0
