Morning all, very drizzly, misty and grey here today, such a change from the good summer. It's not cold though. We have popped the heating on for an hour on the odd night recently, only on the 2 downstairs rads though.

Holly, I am really sorry to hear your news and am sending hugs.My oldest friend is going through the same thing but is just coming towards the last of her chemo.I'm glad you have the support of your family.
TA,sorry to hear of the weekends trauma,it's awful to receive a phone call in the early hours.Hope Mr TA catches up on all the missed sleep ,and you too.

We had some bad news of our own yesterday ,our DGS other Grandad has been moved to the Hospice now, for end of life care.He is a lovely chap & we all remained on good terms when DS and his fiancee split up. She has asked DS ( and us) to be on standby in case she needs help with DGS,which of course we are only too glad to help out. DGD did her fundraising bit for the Hospice yesterday doing the Bubble run,and I think DS wants to do it with both children next year

Took Ly1a to the park this morning and was stopped by one of the road mending workers asking if she was an English Mastiff. She doesn't like men in high vis jackets because of when we were flooded and she had 16 months of them outside our window rebuilding our road.I told him she was nervous & gave him some treats which she accepted gingerly then retreated behind me while we had a good chat about Mastiffy things,he has had several.I dont often meet many big dogs or owners round here so it was nice to speak to someone who understands their foibles :rotfl:

Off to see Auntie up the road now,so will love you and leave you with hugs and best wishes xxx

Got up quite late today, woke up early but miracle of miracles, actually managed to get back to sleep.Feeling very decadent about that.
Attempted to stew beef in cooker last night, usually I put too much liquid in but it looked nice and was bubbling away happily before I switched it off at 2am. Switched it back on again for it to do it's magic today. I did brown the beef and then roll it in flour but the liquid in there is still quite thin, what can I use to thicken it? Do I put more flour in later and let it cook out? I've got to get my head round this slow cooker because otherwise, we'll be eating watery food for the next few months....

Got the ladder yesterday but never made it into the attic..maybe today. The mask, tyvek suit and headlamp are ready....:) The OH is like a man child in many ways, never had any DIY experience due to never having had a living space he could do it to, a job that required it, or a DIY dad. I did , so I just leanred along the way. There's not much I won't tackle, thanks to him. It;s just having the impetus to get going, I tend to think about it a lot [too much] before I do anything to make sure I've covered all eventualities and know where potential trouble could manifest...

Crap news Holly. I am in the same boat, but a bit further down the line [3 months further], so if you need any info or want to chat, PM me. I found I wanted to know everything about it, and side effects etc, am quite happy to chat about it if you need to. Depending on your treatment, my experince might not be helpful though, because I'm not on tablets, I'm on the line chemo. Still happy to chat if I can help though :)

TA - total pain in the behind..personally, I'd have forgiven him, he was obviously worried and didn't have anyone to ask a second opinion of, so went cautious...but then I would have been very annoyed too :) swings and roundabouts...

Took me so long to write that post there were another 4 by the time I pressed send [or the equivalent]

Jackie O - Yes to the dark humour though definitely. I tell people I would like a wine cooler as a replacement boob with a tap on it...or a magic lamp so I can do mountain rescue...I love the looks I get, so funny...

I'm back, have just read through everyone's posts.

TA I am sad to hear that you had that very worrying experience but I think that I might have been relieved that the doctor was proactive, even if a bit over zealous. Not acting on things can have such devastating consequences.

Bellabella that's very poor behaviour, I think that would probably not happen here, the tone of this daily thread is supportive.

    I must go and bake.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Bellabella, I had a similar thing happen to me with my blog, it got so bad I deleted it and started again under another name. It is really horrible. It was worse for me because I found out who it was, she went to a group I attended. I actually left the group, had I continued to go I may have been in prison now for GBH!!

Changed my mind about the laundry, the sun keeps coming and going and there is a fair breeze, so hopefully it will dry on the line.
  • Bella please don't stop posting on OS, especially the daily, I'm sure you would never get that sort of response on here. I once posted something on the Travel forum and was shot down in flames and my bones picked over by one nasty person. I have never ventured back on there since I was so upset by that incident. I very rarely venture beyond OS these days it's the safest place!

I have had some upsetting news this morning. One of our friends from the monthly wine and carvery night group died at the weekend, after just a very short illness. After 3 deaths among the group, one who abandoned us and one who moved away, our group is now down to 3. Like the musketeers we will soldier on, one for all and all for one.

    Take care all xx

  • Sorry to read that you'd had an unpleasant experience on one of the other boards, bellabella :( - I know what others have said about 'MoneySavingOldStyle' being very supportive part of this site. I once offered some 'gentle advice' on a thread in 'The Money Savers Arms' - what a nasty response I got and never ventured in there again - not even for a half of shandy !

  • Dumpling, I send cheques rather than cash. I get through lots of cheque books as my bank now only put 18 cheques in a book.
Several advantages - should arrive, the recipient might not fritter it away because he/she has to go to the trouble of banking it, could help he/she with saving for something bigger.

  • bellabella please stay with us we really are quite a friendly bunch I know whats meant by the 'Arms' they can be quite nasty at times and judgemental so I try to stay away if I can. Much nicer lot in here.

I have been knitting more of those blessed baby balls and now only have 15 more to go until they are all finished I am getting on OK with them ,but its just boring knitting the same thing over and over again, but at least I have used up lots of odds and ends of balls so virtually no waste at all as they are all striped ones .

Tonight's dinner is going to be stuffed peppers with mushrooms and cheese and a lid of dried stuffing mix on the top with a side salad, I enjoy a veggie Monday nights now and again Its been very warm in Kent today and all my washing is dried beautifully on the line :):)
Hope Speky is enjoying his break from work in the sunshine

    Cheers chums

  • Hello all
Just popping in as we are back from our holiday. We had a horrendous first half of our journey, we left at 8 am and it took us an hour and a half to go 3 miles to get on the M5 . All in all it took us 4hrs instead of 2hrs. I had a nice relaxing break and even had a a few days topping up the tan :D. Unfortunately it's back to the same old problems now we are home but they are nothing compared to some people on here.

I haven't had chance to catch up but I am so sorry to read about our lovely Holly. ( Holly I have PM'd you ) and also about Mr TA.
I shall now go and have a look at what else I have missed.
Hope to see you all tomorrow.
    Love nan xx
