Wow JButler!
Sounds like you'll be having an exciting culinary week!
My I join you please?
I need some help, I get bored just cooking for myself.
I enjoy trawling the 'cooking for one' thread but can always do with another source of inspiration!
My issue is I don't have access to an actual cooker/oven/hob.
I have many gadgets- instant pot wannabe /slow cooker/soup maker/ George Foreman/ Halogen oven.
Also Planning a trip to 'The Swedish Place' to purchase one of their portable hob plate thingies. Only issue with that is they are induction so got to be careful what pots & pans you can use on it.
Looking forward to some amazing food ideas!0 -
I say JButler, that's like a restaurant menu! I envy your family
Hipster veg box got here today, so I should really be meal planning, but one of the items I haven't actually heard of, and don't think I'm going to like.. and they also gave us bagged salad, which I'm not keen on..
So, spuds, (more) beetroot, onions and green beans is what I've got to work with this week.0 -
What veg is it you've never heard of? Post on here and someone may be able to offer some advice about how to cook it. You can't honestly say you won't like it if you've never tried it!

@Captain Bluebear - Of course the more, the merrier love seeing what everyone else is cooking, think its a great source of inspiration when meal planning! Like you I have many of the 'gadgets' and very rarely use the hob. Loving the Autumn weather at the minute, the slow cooker is working overtime!
@phryne - Thank you! It's not always like this I assure you :rotfl: just found some nice recipes for the slow cooker this week! What veg do you have? Let us know; we love a challenge!I have enough money to last me the rest of my life ... until I go and buy something!0 -
WE tend to do a fortnightly meal plan (to go with our fortnightly food shop) as we had far too many instances of 'Let's have xx for dinner - ah, we can't as we don't have [insert ingredient]/ it's still in the freezer'. It's not prescriptive, if I don't want to cook/eat the day's offering I just choose something else.
Our menu for this week looks thus:
Monday: Chilli wraps (with home-made canned chilli)
Tuesday: Oven-baked fish with veg
Wednesday: Spaghetti Carbonara
Thursday: One-pot spicy rice
Friday: Egg and Bacon Pilau
Saturday: Venison stew
Sunday: Home-made pizza2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

It's a bitter tasting green. I guess it might be ok if it's like spinach, which I add to tomato sauces, but if the flavour's too strong I won't get on with it.
It's called Cime di Rapa
(nope, me neither.. :rotfl: )0 -
There's a recipe on the Riverford website to use it with pasta. Might be worth a try.

I used to love that thread, interesting to see what others are having and keeps me focused. Most of my meals are from the freezer this week, just need to buy a few bits.
My plan:
Thursday - Oven chips, breaded chicken, corn, gravy (using up stuff from the freezer)
Friday - Pork, mushroom and spinach curry with rice and naan
Saturday - LO curry
Sunday - Sausage casserole with mash and peas
Monday - Out
Tuesday - Chicken curry and rice
Wednesday - Cheese and tomato pasta bake
Breakfast - corn flakes, weetabix, yogurt, fruit
Lunch - LOs, pasta with pesto, soup, crackers0 -
so last week was a little hit and miss with actually sticking to the meal plan, had a couple of evenings with unexpected guests so things went a little wrong!
This is what this week is looking like..
Monday
- Stuffed butternut squash with cous-cous and salad.
Tuesday
- Pesto and turkey meatball bake with roasted greens and garlic bread.
Wednesday
- Grilled pork chops with autumn kale salad and roasted broccoli.
Thursday
- Chicken, bacon and leek cottage pie with steamed greens.
Friday
- Oxtail stew with dumplings, mashed potatoes, braised cabbage and steamed greens.
Saturday
- Veggie spaghetti bolognese with garlic toast and a side salad.
Sunday
- Sausage and colcannon bake with roast roots and steamed greens.I have enough money to last me the rest of my life ... until I go and buy something!0 -
This week's menu:
Sunday - Roast chicken dinner
Rest of the week in no particular order:
Tortellini Primavera and garlic bread
Sausage, mash, veg and onion gravy
Chicken and veg stir fry
Roasted veg and pesto tart with crushed roasted baby potatoes
HM Minestrone soup and cheese toasties
Burger in a bun with sweet potato wedges
Probably another roast next Sunday, then we are off to Spain for a week so no cooking for me :j0
