O/S Daily Sunday 16 September 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning all
Hope you enjoyed your Thai takeaway RosyRed, 43 years congratulations.
Thinking of the TA's, Poppy, LameWolf and Mr Wolf
Hope Holly is ok
I know my posts are boring but that's my life. I don't have RL friends
it's just me and DH. We have DS, DGS and DiL but don't see or hear from them very often.
Everyone please keep posting, I love to read all your news
When I was down you were there ,thank youIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I had a fairly good night's sleep although I had a very vivid dream about being in Slytherin and fighting Harry Potter. I feel a bit disgruntled as I always considered myself a Hufflepuff :rotfl::rotfl:. Sorry to all you muggles, you won't know what I am talking about:D. Apart from that, I feel ok.
Lee came home absolutely buzzing after his day at comic con. He came home with a big bag of geeky stuff and said that he had had a sword fight with the Joker and then watched the masquerade. It was all amazing apparently and I am so thrilled he had a great day and everyone loved his costume.
The grandchildren are coming over this afternoon, I can't wait to see them. Steve has sorted out his 'old' phone to give to our grand daughter as the one she has is not very good. I bought a new unicorn case for it so it looks like a brand new phone now. I know she will be so pleased with it. Steve has also sorted out a miniature drone for our grandson so he does not feel left out. He will have to take it home to play with it though as our dog Bobby goes nuts when it starts flying around.
We are having a very traditional fishfingers and chips for dinner as nobody fancied a roast today. I do have an apple pie in the freezer though so I will get Steve to cook that for pudding. Next week we are back to healthy eating and I have a couple of new recipes to try out on everyone.
I hope holly is ok and it is just her internet playing up again. Sending hugs to all the poorly and worried too including snoozer, polly, csarina and the TA's. I hope nannywindow comes back soon too as I know she went on holiday but I miss her lovely posts.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good morning everyone and I am up with the birds this morning as its the Exodus day for my DGS Jack The car is all packed with his worldly possessions including his blue teddy
:):) 18 and setting off on a new adventure to Uni ,but won't leave his bear behind
:):)He says its brought him luck over the years
:)bless him. My car hasn't got an inch left in it and just enough room for him to sit in the front. The back is filled with boxes of his odds and ends two guitars (he will be popular in Halls if he practices late at night
).Plus enough food to keep him going for awhile We are setting off at 9.00 so hopefully the roads shouldn't be too crowded (:):)) but its only 70 or so miles and it gives us plenty of time.My DD is following in her car with two of his brothers and the two dogs We have found a dog friendly pub for lunch thereMy siiting room looks less like a supermarket now the car is packed up:)
Spent yesterday afternoon knitting more of the baby balls only 18 more to do24 finished thank goodness.
Hope everyone has a good day and <<hugs>> to those who are in need of one
Cheers chums

Morning everyone
silver-oldie - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy and overcast here this morning but not cold, forecast is for it to brighten up later, so I'll peg the washing out in the hope that it will line dry.
DH and myself are enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day, boys still in their pits, we'll be visiting the parents this morning before heading home for roast chicken, roasties, mash, carrots, green beans, cauli cheese, broc, yorkshires and gravy. Dinner last night was chicken goujons, pizza, salad, skinny chips, side salad, cheese, pickles, pasta salad. I had tuna salad. Th diet and losing weight is very slow, I'm hoping to have lost weight this week but not that convinced, had hoped to have lost half a stone before holiday, Tuesday night is the last weigh in before we go on Friday - hoping to have done it but not sure - we'll see, will keep being good and hope for the best, I have cut down even more this week so if I don't lose anything I don't know what the answer is. I'm thinking maybe my body is naturally where it wants to be, but as always I want to be a bit lower, so I'll see what happens this week so if I put much on whilst away and then once we're back may review my goal weight (which is something that's been on my mind right from the start I think I set my goal to low for me).
Yesterday work was quiet, so not too bad, back to it tomorrow for my normal working week, then hols, can't wait, we're both more than ready for a break.
Keep safe and well x

:hello: Good Morning, Oldstylers:
Thank you for starting the thread off for today, silver-oldie.
JackieO - I've now got visions of your DGS riding pillion on the back of your pencil - with all his 'stuff' piled up like 'The Clampett's moving to Beverly Hills' :rotfl:.
Pleased to hear that your DS enjoyed his day at ComCon, dumpling - my friend's son (Age 50 who has Downs) loves Star Trek and goes to all their conventions - with his younger brothers - in 'full costume'. He enjoys them like his 'Birthday and Christmas all rolled into one'l
Nothing at all wrong with your posts, silver-oldie - we all have lives that can be a combination of 'high drama' and 'peaceful calm' ...................... wish mine was the 'peaceful calm' bit all the time!
nmlc - I LOVE this 'early morning' peace when nobody else is up and about. I'm not much use when everything is manic first thing in a morning ...................... what a blessing 'retirement' is :T!
My DGD1 went back to Uni yesterday, so we've now got the 'lull after the hurricane' of the past few weeks. Had a phone call from her last night to say Thank You for the Banana & Choc Chip Cake that I sent her back with - but she was busy evicting spiders from her room ......................... her room mate had actually killed 15 of them BEFORE DGD had arrived .
Plans for today include church this morning, followed by a visit to a friend (ex work colleague from 28 yrs ago) who I've heard is very poorly.
((((BIG HUGS)))) and prayers to anybody who needs them.
Hope everybody has a great 'OldStyle Day' and can spend it in the way that they would want to :T.0 -
Good morning all, and thank you Silver-Oldie. Your posts are certainly not boring - I was saying yesterday that I thought mine were, but as someone pointed out it's life. We can't be doing exciting things all the time, and would probably complain if we did!!
Hope your Dgs gets settled in all right Jackie O.
Dumpling, Lee seems to have had a good day. Sounds as if you've got a busy afternoom ahead.
Fishfingers and chips - I lurve fishfingers, always have done, since they were invented I think!
I don't think we'll be going out today, we were out most of yesterday, and there's a few things to do in the house. It's very windy here this morning.
Hope everyone has a good day. Thinking of the TA's, and anyone else who is poorly or worried.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread SO and hugs to all those in need.
Sorry I have been missing in action, I'm another one who's posts are boring I'm sure.
I have had a busy few days, it's that time of year so I've got blackberry vodka, sloe gin and elderberry cordial on the go. Yesterday I found a house with marrows and chillies being given away, so I'm making roasted spicy marrow today.
We had hope to have a residential mooring for our boat this year, but it's not going ahead so we will continue our peripatetic life style. We moved Friday afternoon, yesterday morning and we will be moving again today.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Popped back to say, I meant to comment on your post of yesterday Mrs SD, about your Dsis. All those niggles would drive me mad as well - I'm a list maker, and a planner ahead. I like to know what's happening , where I've got to be, at what time, and with whom!! Makes me sound terrible, I know. I've got worse as I've got older.0

Morning everyone and thanks for the start SilverOldie. It’s funny how we all think our own posts are boring but love keeping up with each other’s lives x
Happy new chapter in his life to JackieO’s DGS Jack.
It’s dry but breezy here in EA, I am sitting here enjoying a cuppa and looking out on my apple tree, still laden with fruit. My apple store in the shed is full, there is no room left in the freezer but there is still so much fruit left. I have tried leaving bags outside the gate with a sign saying free, help yourself but only one bag has gone, seems that folks don’t want free food nowadays
A few bags have made their way over to the yard for Lu and her mates but they can’t eat them all, oh well.
Not masses planned for today, just a quiet day at home, have some ready stuffed chicken thighs to roast for dinner and of course there will be bacon butties whilst listening to the Archers omnibus.
Thinking of the TA’s and hoping that Holly is ok, am worried about her have to say.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning everyone.
Another stormy night here, it's supposed to move north during the morning. Living by the is mostly wonderful until storm season. It's lovely to watch a storm rage through even though it's usually savage.
I've been listening to Saturday Live this morning. The main guest was Rick Wakeman who was very interesting. The secondary guests were Eric Monk and Bobby Seagull from University Challenge. And there was a 'listener' talking about a dolls house.
On an MSE theme I had noticed that DM had changed her bed linen and used a set I hadn't seen for many years. Turned out that she bought it in 1964. Mind you she's still using towels from about the same time - one in particular has bald patches on the parts most used for hand drying.
My day will be spent answering panicky emails from one set of students! They are very diligent about their work and deadlines.:rotfl:
As for food, I'll pull out a portion of the venison casserole I made last week.
Yes, I miss the 'old faces' but really appreciate the 'new faces' too. It's like neighbours moving house and new ones moving in. I think often of Penny-pincher, she was very ill. As for Tru - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for her to reappear in December!
Hugs to our poorlies. Happy Sunday to everyone.0
