Drainage
Hi, my neighbour has just rebuilt the boundary wall to our properties and asked us if they can go ahead with repairing a cracked foul drain which they say has been leaking on their property for 20yrs!! Can this even be possible?? Our houses are detached and we live on a hill, our property is above theirs.

Weekly Flylady Thread 18th June 2018
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Help with meal planning
Hi One of the things my husband and I are really bad at is meal planning. We eat the same meals over and over, we probably throw out more food that we should, do "top up" shops mid week and sometimes eat out or get a take away up to twice a week on a bad /busy week. We don't drink much (a bottle of beer/glass of wine at…

Frozen swede ideas?
Hi all, I have a bag of frozen cubed swede in my freezer that I'd really like to use up. I think I originally bought it to use in soups (as an alternative to whole swede which my wrists/knives aren't up to!), but now it's summer I don't really fancy soup. I thought about cooking it and mashing it up with something, but I'm…

Where to buy 'jam sugar' or pectin?
Strawberry glut time, so jam making is about to start. I can buy ordinary sugar for very little, but jam sugar from Sainsbury's is £2/Kilo, which adds about 50p to the cost of each jar just for pectin. Any suggestions of the most cost effective place to get jam sugar or pectin?

Prepping for Brexit thread
Hi guys I’m pretty well resolved to the fact that Brexit is going to affect us all. I don’t want this thread to be a good or bad, right or wrong type thing. Just a positive, what can we prepare to make life easier, less expensive, less disruptive when it does happen. My aims are to stock up on items I think are going to…

Where to begin with controlling food spend?
Hi I recently had a proper light bulb moment over our debts. I'm currently trying to re-jig finances to 0% cards, etc and get a clearer picture of where we stand. Already from pulling info together for our SOA i can see that our food spending is ludicrous! Whats the best way to start getting food under control? I thought i…
